It has been a dream for a very long time to have all the best of the AK-47 and AR-15 attributes combined into a rifle. And how would that rifle look exactly?

Bullets are flying off shelves, and it probably isn’t going to get any better anytime soon. So I am taking this opportunity to address a question I have had since the last ammo crunch. Is there a way to train with my AR using rimfire only?

The FN 5.7x28mm is an amazing round designed for a precise ballistic niche. Wither launched from a street-legal PS90, a FiveSeveN handgun or a CMMG AR, the 5.7 is soft shooting and hard-hitting. It is a joy to shoot and accurate enough for varmints or range work.

In terms of pure visceral enjoyment, the Mk47 is a joy to shoot and a dead sexy looking rifle. CMMG’s Mk47 merges the ergonomics and modularity of the AR with the best qualities of the AK.

The newest version of CMMG’s 5.7 uses a standard mil-spec AR lower receiver. Rather than shrinking dimensions and using a pistol sized magazine, CMMG engineered a larger magazine roughly the same dimensions as a standard capacity 30-round AR magazine.

Even with heavy loads, recoil is light. I would compare it to birdshot from a 12 gauge autoloader.
