White House Presses Republicans for Action on Gun Control Amid Holiday Violence

In the aftermath of a series of tragic shootings that darkened the Independence Day holiday weekend, the White House made a plea to Republican lawmakers to back more stringent gun-control measures.

“As we have seen over the last few days, there’s a lot more … work to do to address the epidemic of gun violence that is tearing up our communities,” said White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

She highlighted President Joe Biden’s support for legislation approved last year.

“He also knows that that is not enough. Which is why, on the heels of the tragedies we saw unfold across the last few days, the president continues to call on Republican lawmakers in Congress to come to the table and ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, to require safe storage of guns, to end gun manufacturers, immunity from liability and to enact universal background checks.” Jean-Pierre continued.

“Lives are at stake here,” Jean-Pierre warned, stressing the importance of these “meaningful, common-sense reforms.” She claimed that a majority of Americans support these changes. “We need Republicans in Congress to protect our communities,” she stated.

President Biden also mourned the lives lost across the country over the 4th of July weekend.

In his own statement, the president addressed a wave of shootings, from Philadelphia to Fort Worth, Baltimore to Lansing, Wichita to Chicago.

He marked the one-year anniversary of the shooting at an Independence Day parade in Highland Park, Illinois. Following this tragedy, Illinois lawmakers banned “assault weapons” and “high-capacity magazines” statewide.

Biden praised Illinois’ “progress” but called for more restrictions.

“And as we have seen over the last few days, much more must be done in Illinois and across America to address the epidemic of gun violence that is tearing our communities apart,” Biden explained.

Violent crime has risen 86% over the past two years, and 56% over the past four in Chicago, reports TheCenterSquare.com.

Biden urged other states to follow Illinois’ lead and called on Republicans for support. As mentioned he seeks a nationwide ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, mandatory safe gun storage, an end to gun manufacturers’ immunity, and universal background checks.

He concluded by reiterating the broad public support for these “meaningful, commonsense reforms.”

It’s important to note precisely what Biden is saying. That is, the failure of these new restrictions in Illinois to curb “gun violence” in cities like Chicago is proof of the need to do “much more.”

How does that work exactly? It doesn’t make any sense. The reason? Because it’s insanity. That is, it’s doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

To be clear, additional gun control laws will not disrupt the entrenched cycle of drug and gang-fueled violence that plagues our urban centers.

To truly address this issue, we must look beyond surface-level “solutions” — “solutions” that actively work to disarm the law-abiding — and dig deeper into its root causes.

Simply repeating the same failed strategies will not lead us to different outcomes.

Instead, it will likely perpetuate the problem we aim to solve by rendering good guys defenseless in the face of the criminal element.

Guns are a symptom of the problem, NO people kill people! shortsighted policies over the years have not changed a thing. Maybe we could start teaching kids in school how to handle guns and show them what it does to other people. states without guns only put guns in the criminal’s hands. police only take action after the fact. a number of people have called only to have the police say we check INTO THE CALL.

Guns are a symptom of the problem. The problems are created by democrat shortsighted policies. As the republicans have controlled congress and presidency four non consecutive terms, eight years, since FDR, the democrat party owns the sorry state of this country.

We need criminal control – lock up the violent criminals – don’t put them back on the streets. Get real Brandon.

Same old misinformation from POTUS. the current Administration fully thinks the American populace will roll over. Most will due to ignorance. There is a reason the extreme left want our children.

blah….blah……blah blah blah…..why don’t you get the drugs and guns out of your houses (or the ones the taxpayers own) before you take our guns! it’s called “lead by example” a foreign concept for the left.
