When it comes to building AR-pattern rifles, FN knows it stuff. With contracts to produce variants of the design for the U.S. military, this is a company that knows how to build them right. As a result, the semi-automatic FN 15 series offers civilian shooters their own versions of some truly battle-proven classics.

Building on this strength is what the company describes as the next evolution of the FN 15 design. The FN 15 Series will now take on what is described as a “streamlined, family” approach and feature a newly designed FN handguard with M-LOK technology. The handguard is constructed of 6061 aluminum, precisely locks to the upper receiver, over top of the barrel and barrel nut, using wedge locks tightened clockwise and anti-rotation pin preventing movement between rail and receiver. The system is designed to provide maximum rigidity to ensure that no mounted accessories will shift.

According to FN’s John Keppeler, senior vice president of commercial and law enforcement sales, “The updates made to the FN 15 series focus heavily on the handguard. We evaluated handguard options on the market and decided that the next evolution of this line would need to outperform our customers’ expectations in terms of fit and finish as well as accuracy. We are confident that these new rifles will do just that.”

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Still just another accessorized AR.

Lump this in with the thinking that an AR with a particular brand name is somehow WAY superior to anything built from small-brand-name parts. If it’s FACTORY built with the neat accessories, it’s GOT to be better than upgrading the hand guard/sights/pistol grip/trigger/whatever yourself.

I’ve owned around 50 AR’s over the years and the very first is the only one I didn’t build myself. But I guess that’s not for everyone.
