Heckler & Koch is shipping their latest addition to the VP series of striker-fired service pistols with the new VP9 Tactical. The Tactical model is suppressor-ready and comes with an extended, threaded barrel.
As factory parts, these threaded barrels bring the same quality and features of standard VP series barrels. Heckler & Koch uses proven cold hammer-forged barrels with polygonal rifling for less bullet deformation and improved muzzle velocities. Both can help with accuracy and bullet expansion. And H&K has put as many as 90,000 rounds through their VP9 barrels in testing, proving their excellent barrel life.
The VP9 Tactical is built around H&K’s LE package and includes not two but three magazines and comes with 3-dot tritium night sights. The VP9 Tactical is shipping with 15-round magazines and 10-round mags for sale in restricted markets.
H&K has been busy lately adding and expanding their VP- and P-series pistols with full size and subcompacts for everyday carry, service and competition. The VP series is a runaway hit with shooters, delivering H&K quality at friendly prices. The Tactical models have an $899 MSRP and street prices are expected to be around or under $800. That’s still a solid value considering it comes with an extra mag and night sights. The base LE package runs between $650 and $750 and aftermarket threaded barrels cost an extra $200 or more.
The sights are standard height which means that the Tactical model will work best with eccentric suppressors. Even if you decide to swap the factory nights sights out for suppressor sights, money-wise the VP9 Tactical is still a deal.
Apart from a slightly-extended barrel the VP9 Tactical is identical to the standard VP9 — and that’s a good thing. When Heckler & Koch launched the VP series they came out swinging. The VP series competes with the best of the latest crop of next-generation polymer striker-fired pistols. The VP9 has an easy-to-rack slide with slide extensions and nine interchangeable grip inserts to make it comfortable and a breeze to manipulate. Like all VP pistols the Tactical model is fully ambidextrous with mirrored controls on both sides for lefties and off-handed shooting.

These handguns have risen to the top with shooters around the world. Developed for personal and law enforcement use, the VP series has been a big success for Heckler & Koch. Recently H&K was awarded a large police contract to equip the Phoenix police department with their .40-caliber VP40.
“We felt they are comfortable, easy to carry and they aren’t any heavier than the Glock,” said Phoenix City Police Chief Ray Smith to the Ledger-Enquirer. “We think it’s going to be a smooth transition.” The department previously issued Glock pistols for the last 10 years.
“It’s cost-effective to convert to the Heckler & Koch instead of going with Glock,” he said. “Heckler & Koch has one feature that we like better, and that is you don’t have to pull the trigger to disassemble the gun. By the end of September, we should be fully converted to Heckler & Koch.”
Now all Heckler & Koch has to do is release a subcompact variant along with a long slide model and they’ll have a complete lineup of striker-fired handguns.

Simple question for manufacturers. Why make a gun that is ready for a suppressor/silencer and not put sights for the correct height? If you sell it for an intended purpose, please ensure it works with the specific options that are to be added.
It’s obviously intended to use cans like the Osprey that don’t require suppressor height sights, as the author stated in the article.

Well if you just put suppressor height night sights on it the buyer could use ANY suppressor . Some people already have 9mm suppressors that aren’t the Osprey.
I would really like this in .45acp. (With suppressor height night sights please)
My Osprey is still too tall for regular sights.
