The reported decline of the National Rifle Association has left an apparent vacuum in the gun rights lobby, and Donald Trump, Jr., thinks he can fill it.
The former president’s son announced this week the launch of the Second Amendment Task Force, which the younger Trump will chair as it works to combat threats to the right to keep and bear arms.
“The Second Amendment is the whole ballgame; it’s the freedom that protects all of our other freedoms. Unfortunately the Biden Administration and Democrats in Congress are hellbent on eroding our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms, whether it’s nominating radical gun-grabbers to senior positions in the executive branch or pushing anti-gun legislation,” Trump Jr. told Fox News Digital. “The Second Amendment Task Force is entirely devoted to ensuring the Left is never successful in disarming American citizens.”
On the organization’s “About” page, Trump, Jr., takes credit for sinking David Chipman’s nomination to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. This experience, the website states, “made Don Jr. realize that there was an opportunity to better organize pro-Second Amendment efforts and dominate the modern, digital battlefield of ideas.”

The group is “laser-focused” on engaging grassroots activists in the fight against gun control. This “special ops team of advocates” will work to combat Biden’s nominees and oppose executive or legislative action that weakens the Second Amendment rights of the American people.
The Second Amendment Task Force plans to build its operation around Trump, Jr.’s, high social media visibility as well as his national media appearances, according to Fox News Digital.
The website includes a way to sign up to “Take Action” and to donate, but so far, it’s unclear how the group will be structured or what immediate actions it plans to take.
Trump, Jr., has never been shy about voicing his love for hunting and shooting sports. He regularly attends trade shows like the NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits as well as the NSSF’s SHOT Show.

In 2020, there were even rumors that he could unseat Wayne LaPierre as the NRA’s executive vice president. Trump, Jr., dismissed those claims as “fake news” at the time, but he apparently still held some ambition to head a gun-rights organization.
In 2021, Trump, Jr., lobbied hard against David Chipman’s nomination to head the ATF. He reportedly spoke to lawmakers about his views, published op-eds slamming Chipman, and encouraged his supporters to lobby against the nominee.
It’s unclear how much Trump, Jr.’s, efforts affected the ultimate outcome (virtually every gun rights organization was also lobbying against Chipman), but the White House eventually pulled the nomination after it became clear they wouldn’t receive enough support in the Senate.

This venture you have announced could be exciting or it could dilute some of the efforts by existing “2nd Amendment Gun Rights advocates”. My observation is that you are a man of solid principles, as is your father and the rest of your family. That said, I believe many Americans would appreciate hearing from you as to why you are stepping forward on this issue rather than taking a leadership role in the NRA or other organization with the same stated objectives. What are your goals and objectives and most importantly your roadmap, expectations and strategy? How do you see this effort being powerful and supportive to America?
I am asking because I am one of those Proud Americans who believe in this country, the Constitution of the United States, our Bill of Rights, the Rule of Law and most of all our basic rights afforded by God and enshrined in the efforts of our forefathers. There are many interrelated issues that bind America to the greatest principles on earth. Greed is not one of them! Power is not one of them. However, truth and justice can cement the concept of accountability to our great society.

First, I suspect that rumors about the imminent NRA’s demise are greatly exaggerated. It has problems but is not going anywhere. Those not happy with the current version of the NRA have other already existing, vigorous options, including the GOA [and see below].
Second, not all the “Left” is opposed to 2A. You can find active and healthy left-leaning, pro-2A organizations out there, quietly arguing for gun rights, though they do not as ostentatiously stick their necks out in this crowd.
Those who genuinely are for 2A rights should seek them out and work with them, not demonize them. You do have allies on that side of the aisle.

This week, Don Jr appeared at a gun range for a photo op with a guy who is running for office, who is under investigation for spousal and child abuse. While firing semi auto and what appeared to be an automatic weapon, he talked about shooting liberals. Irresponsible hate speech from dumb people is not what is needed. Nobody, including Biden or Harris, wants to take you Grandfathers A5 or Model 94 from you. And for those of you that think a .223 is a good deer round, look closely at the meat you just hit (you will need to pick out the bits of bone out). As for ARs with “heat shield”, buy a good quality Mini-14 if you have use for a .223, like varmint control. Otherwise you look kind of like the guy driving a Vega – with a bra and a spoiler on the back.
You are part of the problem, you have convinced yourself that YOU know better than the rest of us, and need to preach your particular brand of ‘gun ownership’.

This is a good idea that we all need to get behind. I think Jr. is capable. But what occurred to me while reading this article is that while the 2nd amendment is very important so is the entirety of our U.S. Constitution. We need to protect all of our rights from assault by the Left. We are in an undeclared war for the right of free speech right now. And if the radical Left had their way we wouldn’t be able to even say “GUN”.

As for the NRA, it is finished. The only reason anyone I know is a member is their local range requires it for range membership. Our range has found a local underwriter to insure the range for less than the NRA would, and we are finished with them. The NRA has a long history of compromising with the enemy and calling it victory. lapierre’s shopping spree for his personal wardrobe in hollywood on the NRA credit card was the end for me.

Will Trump Jr’s organization be effective against anti-gunners? Who knows but it’s always a good thing to have another pro-gun group AND being he’s a Trump with his social media exposure, the word might get out to people who normally don’t hear of anti-gun laws, bills, etc.
