RFK Jr: What is the Real Cause of Mass Shootings?

2nd Amendment – R2KBA Current Events This Week

RFK Jr.: What is the real cause of mass shootings?

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

In a recent appearance on “The Capitol Hill Show,” Robert F. Kennedy Jr. shared his views on the pressing issue of gun-related violence in America.

He firmly stated, “I’m not going to do anything during my presidency to take people’s guns away.” However, he emphasized that violence, particularly against children, is “unacceptable” and needs to end.

Kennedy highlighted a perplexing trend: despite no per capita increase in gun ownership over the past 20 years, mass shootings have “exploded.”

He questioned the reasons behind this surge, suggesting that factors beyond gun availability are at play. “We’ve always had an abundance of guns in this country,” he said, pointing out the need for deeper investigation.

One area Kennedy believes deserves more attention is the potential link between gun violence and other factors, such as psychiatric drugs and video games.

This is worth a listen if you have time.

He noted that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) hasn’t studied the causes of gun violence since 1996. “NIH needs to be studying to see if there’s connections to some of the SSRI and psychiatric drugs people are taking,” he argued.

Kennedy also compared the United States to Switzerland, a country with a high number of guns but a significantly lower incidence of mass shootings.

“The last mass shooting they had in Switzerland was 21 years ago. We have them every 21 days,” he observed. This stark contrast raises questions about other contributing factors to America’s gun violence problem.

Reflecting on his own childhood, Kennedy recalled a time when gun clubs at schools were normal, and yet, school shootings were unheard of. “What happened? It’s something else happening, and we need to look at that realistically,” he urged.

In a call to action, Kennedy encouraged a collective inquiry: “Let’s all ask this question together as Americans. Is there something else that explains this?”

What do you think of Kennedy’s take? And, in your opinion, what is the real cause of mass shootings?

Some very interesting posts here. First, it’s not the Republican Party that supports Trump, it’s the people. For good bad or indifferent he is the choice of conservative America at this point. I voted for him twice and while I would rather he not be president again, look forward to 4 years of, constant charges and impeachment efforts, I’ll take him over biden [lower case by design] any day. I did support DeSantis by the way. I’m very suspicious of RFK and agree that if he said he’d sign a AW ban, he is no libertarian or conservative. Also very good point about removing the top 5 dem cities from the equation. Please God no more biden because that means harris, even worse. Oh and to those who say they’ll vote for a Libertarian or “third party” candidate because they can’t stand Trump….. the actual effect of this kind of thinking is to give the election to biden.

  • KuhnKat March 2, 2024, 9:59 am

Psychiatric drugs and video games. OK, sounds plausible.

Now add woke incitement, primarily from Democrats, and the Standard American diet.

  • Dur Poiguy March 1, 2024, 6:49 pm

Kennedy seems to be missing the real cause of mass shootings. If the top 5 US cities for gun violence(all Democrat controlled BTW) are removed from the equation the US drops from in the top 3 for gun violence to I think 189th out of 193 countries! The LGBTQ explosion fostered by our former gay president and his tranny husband(who knows which is what) have risen to the top of mass shooters and the dirth of mental health for these sad people. Lastly an very important- the non-enforcement of criminal laws and especially gun laws keeps these shooters and criminals in our communities. Enablers like SOROS, GATES and our very own illegitimate vice president KAMALA HARRIS posting bail money for looters spurs criminals on. The rule of law must be enforced for all, criminals who break them and authorities who ignore them!

    • Sharon March 3, 2024, 1:10 pm

You have missed a real cause as well. Hate fueled by disinformation. (Your claims for numbers/cities have no basis in fact BTW) Your delusion about a gay president/tranny husband and LGBTQ explosion is a perfect example, and no doubt shared by the perpetrator of the horrific Pulse nightclub shooting. Delusion IS a mental illness.

      • Hondo March 5, 2024, 3:08 pm

        Then take your medication Sharon.

  • Gary March 1, 2024, 4:48 pm

A lot of the fault is the schools themselves. If they had one armed guard and a metal detector at the only unlocked entryway, almost all of these shootings could be eliminated.

    • Patrick March 6, 2024, 11:53 am

Gun Free Zone legislation passed in 1990. That needs to be repealed. Kids in high school used to take rifles racked in the back window their pick up trucks, so they could go hunting after classes. Or they would bring shot guns so they could go duck hunting after school. Our kids have been indoctrinated into not respecting guns and also into not respecting human life.

  • Dale E Francis March 1, 2024, 1:28 pm

Gun get into the hands of the wrong people. Humans that are irresponsible and don’t think of the consequences. It all start in the home. If you look at the records of the individuals that do the shooting you will see that they have had problems in the past. It only gose to show that nine times out of ten the human was without proper parenting or they didn’t have any parents at all that had time to work with the child or individual.

  • Mike Taylor March 1, 2024, 11:48 am

    It’s a shame he’s a Democrat!!

ADHD medications are amphetamines research has been conducted showing continual usage starting pre pubescent into adulthood has adverse effects on reason . Suicidal tendency and violent reactions. Add this to societal isolation causing awkward and tense interactions. Gee I wonder why we are having an issue.

    • Mitch Hiers March 1, 2024, 2:00 pm

RFK Jr is most emphatically NOT a Democrat. He’s an independent with libertarian leanings. When it comes to politics, I am a Constitutional Conservative first and I’m a libertarian leaning Republican second. I supported FL Gov. Ron DeSantis in the primaries, but I’ll be voting for RFK Jr in the general election because the GOP must have lost its effing mind to go with Trump as its nominee again. I will NEVER again vote for Trump — period.

      • Hondo March 1, 2024, 3:32 pm

TDS alert , nobody gives a shit who you vote for or not vote for, now run along skippy.

        • Mitch Hiers March 1, 2024, 4:53 pm

Actually, I don’t have TDS (“Trump Derangement Syndrome”) like the leftists do. If anything, I have “Trump Fatigue” — meaning I’m simply tired of Trump’s crap. I’m also not a “Never Trumper.” I’m a “Never Again Trumper.” I did not vote for Trump in 2016 (I voted the Libertarian ticket for POTUS/VPOTUS that year) because I felt that Trump did not have the proper temperament for the job. I was right; he didn’t. The man is his own worst enemy. Nevertheless, I did (I’m ashamed to say) vote for Trump for re-election in 2020 (albeit very, very reluctantly and holding my nose) because I knew just how stupid and corrupt Biden really is. However, I won’t do that again. The GOP has made a colossal blunder by going with Trump again and will wind up regretting that foolish decision — especially when we could have gone with DeSantis and run the table. At this point, our nation’s only hope for some semblance of sanity next year is to reject both Biden AND Trump by electing RFK Jr as our next POTUS. Otherwise, the results of the upcoming general election are going to be disastrous for the nation as well as the GOP regardless of whether Trump or a Democrat holds the White House for the next four years. Trump will cost the GOP otherwise winnable seats in Congress again this election cycle just like he did in the past three consecutive cycles (2018, 2020, and 2022). Trump is an arrogant, obnoxious, undisciplined narcissist with a penchant for firing off petulant missives and childish name-calling whenever he doesn’t get his way, perceives that he has been slighted in some manner, or that someone has been “disloyal.” What a pu$$y! Here’s hoping that RFK Jr gets at least 34% of the vote in enough states to pull off a win in the Electoral College.

          • Kane March 2, 2024, 11:48 am

In your lifetime, list the Presidents that in your opinion have done better job than Trump. Thanks in advance for doing what you could for coming up the very short list. You got a list right?

        • celt March 1, 2024, 5:40 pm

Thanks for calling a spade a spade.
I constantly hear conservatives naively stating, in effect “he’s a democrat but he has good ideas” .That’s like the age old story where the hawk is surprised when he’s stung to death by the snake he helped, after promising not to. The snake replies, “But I am a snake” .

      • Michael March 1, 2024, 3:57 pm

Libertarians don’t want to take people’s rights away. He says he doesn’t want to trample on anyone’s 2nd amendment rights, but he also said he’d sign an assault weapons ban if there was a consensus among both Republicans and Democrats to ban “assault weapons.” That’s literally taking away our guns. Not very libertarian is it.

Anyone who would sign an assault weapons ban under any circumstances is not a freaking libertarian. I don’t care if a bill like that never reaches his desk, the mere fact he said he’d do it is an immediate disqualification for any true 2A supporter. He’s a Democrat plain and simple. He’s not running as an independent because he’s not a Democrat. He’s running as an independent because the Democratic party wants nothing to do with him as a candidate for president.

      • Chum Lee March 1, 2024, 7:36 pm

Funny how the “never Trumpers” never offer a RATIONAL reason for their implacable hatred of Trump.

        • Mitch Hiers March 2, 2024, 1:57 pm

The sooner my party purges itself of Trump and Trumpism, the better — and the sooner we can move on into the future, hopefully with Gov. DeSantis at the helm at some point soon. Until then, the first step for We The Swing-Voters is for us to do whatever it takes to tank Trump in this year’s general election. It appears that RFK Jr is now our only viable option to do that — for the good of the nation as well as for the good of the GOP. All RFK Jr has to do is capture at least 34% of the popular vote in enough states to win the Electoral College. If he can do that, then Biden and Trump are both toast — and that’s a GOOD thing!

  • Mike H March 1, 2024, 11:38 am

The gradual breakdown of the family unit by liberal policy, the lack of another platform for the dissemination of family and American values and law enforcement’s refusal to act on WELL KNOWN indicators of mental health problems that lead to gun violence. Study that!

  • Larry Sakanashi March 1, 2024, 11:29 am

RFK is wise enough to admit he doesn’t know the reasons for so much gun violence, in stark contrast to so many who claim they do.

  • Eugene ross March 1, 2024, 11:18 am

respect for each other has come and gone it’s not taught in schools or the homes anymore. common sense is a thing of the past along with the teachings of GOD has caused the decline of mankind they also have the backing of the democrats with their lack of punishment of criminals and people illegally in this country

Video games, drugs, lack of discipline

  • Lauren Buck March 1, 2024, 10:28 am

I believe it is the rage in one’s heart that brings mass shooters to commit such horrendous acts. When one is isolated, segregated and hatred fills one’s heart. These have become the major factors in driving individuals to commit such crimes. What I also feel is that because of the drive from the left to eliminate weapons, they have caused these crimes to increase because of those action. Why do I say that, because it puts more pressure on many individuals causing the isolation, segregation and hatred to increase, where before it was manageable due to the balance one found in GOD and country.. The violation of self protection laws also opens the door to such acts, giving individuals with psychological problems more opportunity knowing that they will be easier to commit in the act of venting one’s rage on a society which in their opinion has.gone mad.
Though the motives by Lawmakers are in their minds honorable, the effect is compounding the problem to increase in many areas. One can’t change what has been a GOD given right of self protection for as long as this country has existed, without some major repercussion. Our times are changing and self protection will be needed more in a world bent on destroying itself in its opposition to GODS will.

  • The Reticent Rogue March 1, 2024, 10:22 am

While drug use and prescription drugs are surely important factors in mass shootings, as they seem to be a common denominator, they are not causes of gun violence any more than the gun is. They, too, are symptoms of the true cause. The underlying cause is cultural and it is not so simple as the availability of guns and drugs. Drugs are prescribed because the person shows symptoms with an underlying cause too complex for society to bother fixing—like low self-esteem, fatherless homes, sexual immorality, unrequited and untreated narcissism—all among the many results of godlessness, immorality and broken homes. It is easier to prescribe a pill whose side effects are paranoia, schizophrenia, and nihilism, causes of suicidal tendencies with homicide—the fulfillment of which is easier done with a gun. Ignoring this will not make it go away or take pressure off the 2A community. This is more than a Constitutional battle…it’s a cultural battle.

  • Bob March 1, 2024, 10:21 am

It is estimated that by the time a young boy reaches 17, he has committed 10,000 murders on video games. These video games are nothing but training films for young minds searching for an identity. These actions desensitize young minds to murder and become a sense of normalcy. Video game creators MUST stop producing games where hundreds are killed during the course of one segment. These games, (Sony produced) must be limited to people over 21 years old. But the dirty money raked in by these producers is too powerful to be stopped and democrat donors keep laws from being passed. Wake up America

  • Clinton Rock March 1, 2024, 10:18 am

I think Kennedy is correct. Read an article a few years back where the 2 most recent shootings involved kids on anti represents that could leave them confused. I also believe the use of illegal drugs is more prevalent than it used to be and babies born to drug abusing parents are under the drugs influence and could lead to anti social behavior. I graduated high-school in 1964 when all the pickups at school had a rifle on the rack in the back window and the thought of shooting someone or fear of being shot never crossed my mind.

  • Rock March 1, 2024, 10:07 am

RFKj makes sense here and simply says we need to ask “why”. He is the only liberal taking that stance. I remember those days too . . a shotgun, revolver, and a 22lr consisted of a complete armory. The FACT is that democrats INTEND to destroy this country of ours and follow the Obama plan . . BREAK IT SO YOU CAN REMAKE IT. Well, its in the process of breaking folks. Any votes for anything “democrat” is a vote for socialism and the destruction of the USA.

  • Clint W. March 1, 2024, 10:00 am

He should have also pointed out that at one time you could buy a Thompson sub-machine gun and all the ammo you could carry with no wait, background check, or 4473, and nobody shot up schools. Prior to 1968, the USPS would deliver a firearm to your house and again, no wait or checks. His argument is good, but it is coming from the mouth of the most dangerous type of politician, one that will tell you what you want to hear, and then side with the Democrats and the left on all issues. We heard that ‘not taking your guns’ from Biden, and they have done nothing but sabre rattle, with states enacting ill-conceived and useless plans that ultimately fail at SCOTUS. The real issue for gun owners is if RFK Jr or Haley decide to run as independents and we get a rerun of the ’92 election where the Ross Perot candidacy insured the election of Bill Clinton, in this case placing Crazy Joe back in office, and idiot #2 as VP again. Of course, Bush senior tearing up his NRA lifetime membership card on national TV probably cost him at least 5 million sure votes.

    • Bumper March 1, 2024, 1:11 pm

      Well done.

  • MP March 1, 2024, 9:43 am

At a recent family reunion I asked a collection of my parents, aunts, uncles, all in their 70s and 80s if they could remember one school shooting occurring when they were kids. They couldn’t.

I asked them what changed. They could only come up with, “The world has gone crazy.” As an answer. And I have to agree.

The problem is a deep rot in the soul of America. We are a sick, sick people. We have gone insane.

And only a fool would make guns easily available to a sick, insane population.

    • Rock March 1, 2024, 10:11 am

Yes, there is clearly a great reduction in the basic value of human life deep within our society. Christian or non Christian, does not matter. The death cult rules. How anyone can claim to be a Catholic and a democrat is beyond me . . hypocrite is the word.

    • George March 1, 2024, 7:41 pm

Only a fool would give up his means of defense when in the midst of crazy, insane & psychopathic politicians.

  • Joe Morgan March 1, 2024, 9:20 am

Most mass shooters come from disfunctional liberal democratic homes. Perhaps that is where we should start trying to solve this problem.

  • MM in Havasu March 1, 2024, 9:14 am

This guy comes from the same infamously dysfunctional leftist liberal democrat Kennedy family. Take heed, people.

It’s called MENTAL ILLNESS!!!! These mentally disturbed people of all ages are not being cared for or being addressed!! The Doctors put a bandage on it, or ignore it!! All this WOKE Crap, with DEI, and CRT, being forced down our throats is enough to make one mentally ill!! And if you raise your voice against it, you’re labeled a Bigot and/or a Racist!!! Somehow this chit needs to be eliminated from society or we’ll all be calling each other Comrade!!!

    • MP March 1, 2024, 10:02 am

And yet, when we even mention universal health care the Right loses its mind and screams, “We’re not paying for everybody to have health care!”

      So pick your poison, maggats.

Either you have a sick population that stays sick and we take the guns away from the sick people because not to means the continued slaughter of our children.

Or pony up for the sick population to get treatment so you can keep your beloved boom sticks.

Or maybe you think the current state of things is the way it should always be? The continuous slaughter of innocent civilians and children? In which case, you are clearly neither a sane nor a moral person, and not to be negotiated with.

  • Hondo March 1, 2024, 8:58 am

Because leftist democrats are mentally unstable people prone to violent behavior.

  • Ratrodguy March 1, 2024, 8:54 am

One of the reasons there has been a huge increase in school shootings is the stupid ignorant demonrats took “prayer” out of schools. When you remove God from the scene, the devil comes in and all hell breaks loose. Just because you don’t believe there is a God, doesn’t make this untrue. Also, I do believe drugs and video games add to the problem. Also, if you hadn’t noticed, the last 5-7 shootings were the sexually confused “transgender” morons. When you mess with changing your “identity”, you open the door to demons and devil’s coming in. The Bible says the devil comes to “Steal, KILL, and destroy…..” Their just to stupid to figure it out. It’s ALWAYS mentally unstable people that commit these crimes. The other factor is shooters are always “cowards” as the always go where there is “no resistance”, meaning places where these ignorant lunatic lefty’s have outlawed “guns” with their unconstitutional laws. Think about it. Crime ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS goes down when there are law abiding citizens with LOADED guns around. Everybody knows this whole gun issue is the elites and the lunatic lefty’s wanting to “disarm” us so they can control us and make us defenseless so they can bring communism here. It’s all about control.

  • Tip Tover March 1, 2024, 8:35 am

The useful idiots in this country are actively engaged in the destruction of America. It’s an inside job. The final act will be the Biden importation of foreign forces into the country through the open border. Lock and load.

  • Kiko March 1, 2024, 7:56 am

I’ve said the same thing for years as well as visual saturation in TV and movies. Every show these days has guns and a high amount of violence that romanticizes the two. The devaluation of life and morally bankrupt family values are also contributing factors. This should be obvious, but somehow the corrupt system ignores the problem and places the blame on inanimate objects.

  • George March 1, 2024, 7:50 am

There is no such thing as gun violence.

If one does not address the root cause of a problem, the problem will not go away.

“In a call to action, Kennedy encouraged a collective inquiry: “Let’s all ask this question together as Americans. Is there something else that explains this?””

Ask yourself (especially if your brainwashed) with all the violent events involving guns, what is the one thing that if removed from the event, would have prevented the event from occurring?

    The answer will always be…?

  • TERRY March 1, 2024, 7:37 am

Kennedy has a good point. There are other factors that explain the rise in mass shootings besides availability of guns, but that doesn’t fit the left’s agenda. The legalization of drugs and the failure to prosecute and punish criminals should be considered as major factors. There is a rot in society today that didn’t exist back in the day.

    • George March 1, 2024, 7:59 am

“the failure to prosecute and punish criminals”.

Good point! Recently I saw a stat that pointed out that something like 80% of “victims” of violent crime have rap sheets themselves. If true, the wolves are eating their own 8/10 times. To me, this means this “problem” is 80% smaller than advertised.

Years ago it was published that over 80% of all violent crimes are committed by “repeat offenders”. If true, this means we could immediately drop violent crime by 80% of we’d lock up violent criminals and leave them locked up.

And yet, we have somehow changed the name of “prisons” to departments of “correction”. BS

  • ardvark March 1, 2024, 7:26 am

He has always been a democrat and I think he talks out of both sides of his mouth! Several years ago there were over 22,000 gun laws on the books across all states and people still continued to kill other people, Chicago is a prime example, but media dies not address that since it is mostly blacks killing blacks! Democrats are against the death penalty stating that one innocent person being convicted is reason enough to do away with it, how about applying that same reasoning to voting fraud? I think that the democrats could care less about public safety, but are focused on controlling the country and they cannot have the little people having weapons and possibly going against their planned CCP society! The UN and the WEF have the same ideas!
