Early in the morning, about 2:30 am, on September 3rd, a Houston, Texas woman used her firearm to protect herself from a group of robbers.
Lachelle Hudgins arrived outside her apartment where several men were standing around near her parking space. Her windows were partially rolled down and two of the men approached her and apparently began antagonizing her.
“I couldn’t do anything except scream. At one point, they told me to stop screaming, and he reached his hand inside my car,” Hudgins told ABC’s KTRK Channel 13.
One man reached into her passenger side window and grabbed at her purse. Before he could take it, however, she retrieved her gun from the bag.
Hudgins shot twice, shattering the passenger side window. “It was all I had in my gun. I shot until I couldn’t shoot anymore,” Hudgins said. There’s been no discussion of why her pistol only had two rounds in it.

“Honestly, I think I closed my eyes at that point. I just know my gun was in my hand I was getting ready to shoot. And before I knew it I opened my eyes they were gone. I jumped out of the car, and I just kept screaming, like, for someone to help me.”
Like most people who buy tools for emergency use, Lachelle Hudgins hoped she’d never need it. She certainly didn’t expect to use a firearm right outside of her own home.
“I mean I got the gun for that purpose, but I never thought I would really have to use it. Like, I never thought I would have to use it ever.”
The men fled, but police responded to a call about a wounded man who was just on the other side of the apartment complex. It appears that she wounded one of her assailants. He was taken to the hospital and appears to be on the mend after surgery. He faces aggravated robbery charges. His associates didn’t stick around to make sure he got help.
“I saved my life,” Hudgins said. She was not facing charges.

I”m glad this woman saved herself from becoming a victim, sort of. We don’t know yet if there will be any negative fall out for her.
Two things are for sure, she got lucky considering her description of her actions, and; she desperately needs some professional training and supervised practice.
There are a number of problems with her actions that all could have resulted in disaster had not everything gone right. Again, I’m glad she’s okay, and glad she saved herself. I support her, but I hope she realizes that she needs good training and soon.
The gun she had is probably a two shot derringer. I think the photo of the Semi auto and the purse and contents is probably not hers.
I oppose mandatory training for CCW, however, this woman seriously needs some training. She did just about everything wrong, and it is only by the grace of God that she did not injure or kill an innocent person.
I have often thought that in places like Chicago, there should be a program to teach the criminals how to shoot properly. That way they might actually aim at who they want to hit, rather than just spraying lots of rounds down range, hitting innocent people. If they just hit their intended target, then Blood A shooting Crip B, or MS13 C would be less of an issue than the random kids that end up getting hit.

she did the right thing by defending herself from a grave threat but clearly needs some decent training. if i were a houston area shooting range owner i would reach out to young lady to offer her a free pistol course.
Why only two rounds left in the gun? Where were the others used. I am glad though that she had the gun and defended herself.
The only thing I fault her for is not having a fully loaded gun. Yes, she could have avoided them but who thinks they will be in trouble like that? She didn’t think so. Glad she was ok.
The fact she had only two rounds in the magazine suggests she REALLY didn’t ever expect or even want to shoot anyone. I’ll bet that this morning, her magazine is fully loaded–and maybe a spare mag as well…

See. Uncle Joe was right. You only need to two rounds to defend yourself. She should take his advice and upgrade to a double barrelled shotgun asap! (SARCASM MODE OFF NOW).
Seriously, 2 rounds? She must have really not ever expected to use it. From the limited information we have on this story it sounds like she at least had one in the pipe as I doubt she actually had time to pull the slide back to chamber that first round. Or perhaps it was a double barrel derringer?
Regardless of why she only had two rounds available glad she was able to defend herself and a dirtbag got what he deserved.

She’s been watching too many westerns where the 1 or 2 rounds left are for shooting herself before the indians rape her and make her chew their shoes to make them soft!
Some comments on the money, some not. She did one thing right, she was armed. But;
The first thing she did wrong was breaking the first rule of defense, not retreating. She saw the 5 guys milling around near her parking space & she could have surmised they were up to no good, could have called the police at that point or drove off to wait awhile. Second, electing to park & get home, she should have had the gun fully loaded & knew it was loaded. Third, she should have known how to stay calm, aim & controlled fire, keeping both eyes open, focused on the target. Killing an innocent bystander is not an option. Totally losing control, closing her eyes, wilding firing away, not aiming, not cognizant of bystanders. not even knowing what happened after the shooting, is not good. However, she is a brave women who defended herself and lived to tell about it.
Brave? Not hardly. She was nothing more than an ignorant woman with a gun that panicked and was lucky how it turned out. Was she stupid? YES! She NEVER should have pulled into the parking spot with 5 guys milling around, she should have immediately rolled up her windows before entering the parking spot, she should have pulled to another location and watched what they would do or wait until they left, she should have made sure her weapon was fully loaded before leaving home in the first place.
She should definitely enter a martial arts training program where they can teach her not to panic and how to maintain self-control.
2:30am, she sees 5 guys loitering around her parking space. And she pulled up next to them…why? Granted, calling the police may have been a waste of time. Probably would take forever for them to show up. On-site apartment manager, maybe? There HAS to be a better solution than a single woman trying to get past 5 shady guys just to get to her apartment…
I guess this answers the question of why you need a firearm capable of firing more than one shot.
I’m happy she won but closing your eyes and blasting away is poor behavior. She could have hit an innocent bystander.
From the account, it didn’t seem that there were any “innocent bystanders”!
Really? 2:30 in the morning there must have been dozens of innocent bystanders!
It could have been a nightmare for the lady if she was a second too slow in getting her gun.
This shows that 2 shots are better than none. She did exactly what was needed to protect herself.
Self defense with a firearm works. It’s also exactly why more rounds in the firearm is better.
