The new and improved Colt Cobra. MSRP: $699.

Colt is now shipping their new and improved Cobra!

This stainless steel, small-frame snubbie features the stylings of the original Cobra along with some cool new upgrades, including Colt’s new LL2 (Linear Leaf spring, version 2) trigger spring which offers a premium trigger pull experience without the need for hand-fitting.

“The bar was set so high,” said Paul Spitale, SVP for Colt, in a statement. “And the team in Colt’s Innovation Center really knocked this one out of the park. The grip was moved rearward to not only allow for more comfort and recoil control, but this also opened up the trigger guard area to allow for a flatter, more intuitive feeling trigger, as well as easy use with gloved hands.”

“The trigger pull is phenomenal,” continued Spitale. “The feel of this trigger both in the hand and when measured by a computer is very favorable to, and some might say better than, the triggers in Colt’s legacy double-action revolvers.”

Specs and Features

  • Fiber Optic Front Sight
  • LL2™ Trigger System
  • Colt Branded Rubber Grip
  • .38 Special (+P Capable), Six Round Capacity
  • 2″ Barrel Length
  • MSRP: $699

The double-action Cobra was designed for concealed carry.  It sports a 2-inch barrel and is chambered in .38 special (+P capable).

“To offer new shooters a rewarding experience, we focused on the manageable .38 Special round,” said Spitale. “We want folks to be equally comfortable carrying this great firearm for defense and enjoying it at the range with family and friends.”

The Cobra is an all stainless steel platform and comes complete with a Colt branded rubber grip to mitigate recoil.  Fiber optic front sights come standard but users can switch out those sights for tritium night sights.

The MSRP is $699.  It’s now shipping!  The SKU is COBRA-SM2FO.

Can’t seem to locate anyone stocking this unicorn or even anyone knowing when it will be available.

    • Alex May 16, 2017, 2:23 pm

Oh, and by what method are these being shipped? By walking?

      • Doug K. June 4, 2017, 8:10 pm

Walking would be 10 times faster….Colt said the Cobra would be available January 1st. That was over half a year ago and there are no new guns anywhere.

I got mine! It really does live up to Colt’s legendary performance standards. Nothing at that price can match it. I have Smiths, Ruger and old Colts. Anyone who bashes the new Cobra has not handled or much less fired one. Quality is worth waiting for.

Nice looking but I will stick with my old Python. If they released a new Python I would buy that . . . .

  • Russ H May 12, 2017, 7:48 pm

I’ve never understood all the negativity on these articles. Do you like guns or not? If not, quit reading! I guess some people will never be satisfied or happy. I for one am thrilled Colt came out with this pistol – same for any manufacturer coming out with any new firearm. Yes it’s a forum but it seems like almost half the people here bitch incessantly. I like the new Cobra. I have a 1980 Detective Special 6 shot 38 and love it. I also have a 1980 Colt Python, which I equally love. Just might add this Cobra to the collection. As for the price, it is selling for around $640 – is that really unreasonable for a quality handgun?

Colt’s one finger response, to Ruger and the plastic wunderguns !
With that all important sixth shot, it beats S&W J frame, Taurus/Rossi, Charter Arms.
    THE SNAKES ARE BACK !

I actually purchased the new Colt Cobra in late April and could not be happier with its performance. Excellent trigger pull which translates into very accurate shooting. I’ve owned a number of 2″ revolvers that were capable of shooting 357’s. After shooting 357’s one time, I decided I would not do that again so the fact that the new Cobra is 38 SPL + P does not concern me at all. I use Speer Gold Dot 125 grain ammo and have no concern about being able to take out a threat if necessary. I think people like having snub nose revolvers that are capable of handing 357’s just for the bragging rights and not because they shoot that caliber. All in all, the new Cobra is an outstanding snub nose revolver and I am so glad that Colt made the decision to bring it back.

Now if it was in 357 mag and and a 4 or plus inch barrel I would be intrested maybe

    • Mark Robinson May 12, 2017, 2:33 pm

      I agree. I would never buy a 38 when I could spend a little more for a 357 and be able to shoot 38 and/or 357 ammo.

    • Russ H May 12, 2017, 7:54 pm

      Buy a Python if you want a 4″ 357. Or a Trooper. The Cobra’s always been a 38 snubby.

      • ROBERT HELTON May 14, 2017, 6:22 pm

Colt never has listened to its customers, like bringing back the python

  • EaglesEye May 12, 2017, 1:09 pm

Outstanding. It’s a COLT ! Will buy 2-3 of them. If you can’t afford it don’t knock it. Cry baby bullshiters. always bitchin” about what they can’t afford. Don’t like it, don’t buy it. Shot the f— up! Tired of reading all the negative shit you pussies bitch about. Let’s see your contribution(s) (Brains & Money) to the firearms industry if your so damn smart. Best of luck to Colt – An AMERICAN tradition an AMERICAN company that help make this country great. Thanks for the new 6 shooter !

  • Tom Walund May 12, 2017, 12:54 pm

Are they contemplating releasing a Cobra with an alloy frame.

  • JG Benny May 12, 2017, 12:21 pm

    Can’t wait for mine!!

  • JS May 12, 2017, 10:58 am

Thinking of one for the wife’s purse gun, but too much money to be beaten up by her keys, doodles, and garbage she carries all the time.

  • LHS May 12, 2017, 9:27 am

You know, Colt hasn’t had a good out-of-the-box trigger since the Pythons and the older Det. Spcls.
They all have to have “jobs” on them. And the Taurus copies have smoother, wider, more finger-friendly triggers than most Colts and Smiths. When will the the big boy bozos listen to their customers? Ever?

  • shrugger May 12, 2017, 8:55 am

    PYTHON or GTFO!

  • wtsane May 12, 2017, 6:26 am

I am sorry, but I was able to handle one at a show, and the first impression for me was “Hey, a Charter Arms for only twice the price!” Sorry Charlie, you are going to have to do better than that if your name is Colt.

  • Gerald May 12, 2017, 5:55 am

Great! Looking forward to this and other barrel sizes. I want one in .357 magnum!

  • bison1913 May 12, 2017, 4:46 am

    Waiting for mine.

  • Eric Mello May 10, 2017, 7:34 pm

    Can’t wait!
