RCBS 224 Valkyrie Dies Now in Stock

Stop the Presses! Or start ’em — I guess that is actually the more appropriate thing to say in this context. RCBS just released a die set for the 224 Valkyrie, which is a huge step forward for this fledgling cartridge. And I got my grubby paws on them, just in time for prairie dog season in the Potato State.

Being able to roll your own Valkyrie will not only help your pocketbook but it will also ensure that you don’t run out amidst the current Valkyrie craze. Federal is making all the Valkyrie they can, but they can’t keep up with demand.

In my neck of the woods, it doesn’t stay on shelves long enough to assume room temperature. If you were lucky enough to score a case already, I’m betting you picked up your brass. Until the supply chain catches up, at least now you have an option to keep shooting.

Federal has also released unprimed brass and so far Starline Brass lists it on the website.

What’s also great about this announcement is will see some serious load development. Factories tend to play things safe when it comes to ammo and in our litigious society that makes sense.

What any new caliber needs though, is the brain trust of the open market. I have no business working up a 224 load from scratch, but the country is full of old timers with experience doing just that.

With the combined intellect of the reloading super nerds, I predict we are going to see some amazing things from the Valkyrie. With die sets shipping now, that process can begin. Time to stock up on 90-grain Sierra Match Kings, it is going to be a wild ride.
