Sen. Durbin Explains Crime Problem: ‘Just Too Damn Many Guns Out There’

Sen. Dick Durbin believes he knows why violence is on the rise in major cities around America.

“We have more guns in this nation than anyone who wrote the Second Amendment could ever have envisioned,” the Democratic Senator who represents Illinois told Capitol Connection in a recent interview.

“We have over 400 million guns in a nation of 330 million people,” Durbin continued. “And how easy are they to get? Just in the last week or two, we have seen hundreds of guns being confiscated by the Chicago police and community after community that have just too damn many guns out there.”

We need more blanketed gun confiscation is what Durbin is evidently suggesting.  Because in his mind, the best way to tackle crime is to reduce the total number of firearms in civilian hands.

Of course, this flies in the face of data from the last few decades that indicate as the number of firearms in circulation increased, including AR-pattern rifles (what Democrats refer to as “assault weapons”), violent crime actually decreased.

Turns out the opposite of what Durbin is alleging is possibly true. More guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens has the capacity to create a safer society.

(Graph: AEI)

Because only recently, over the past 18 months or so — amidst COIVD lockdowns (where inmates were released from prison), civil unrest sparked by George Floyd protests, a reduction in policing due to activists groups calling for the elimination of law enforcement (the “Defund the Police” movement) — have we witnessed a steep uptick in crime.

All of those are far more likely causes for the violence than the number of guns in society or the boom in gun sales over that same period of time, as GunsAmerica has pointed out.

But that doesn’t fit the anti-gun agenda of the Democratic party. Therefore, Sen. Durbin won’t place blame where it belongs but will instead call out law-abiding gun owners.

SEE ALSO: Why Record-Setting Gun Sales Have Nothing To Do with Spike in Violent Crime

“I’m not going to suggest that there are people who say, ‘I’ve got to protect myself because I can’t trust the police to do it,’ or, ‘I don’t want the police to do it. I want to take care of it myself,’” Durbin said.

“There are lots of different reasons [why people choose to exercise their 2A rights]. I’m not going to be able to analyze it,” he said. “But when it gets down to it, we’re crazy if we don’t do background checks on the people who buy guns. Anybody who is a convicted felon or mentally unstable should not be able to buy a gun. And yet when it comes to gun shows, orders over the internet, these ghost guns, we’re not enforcing that. That is just unacceptable. That ought to be the starting point of our conversation.”

In other words, the best way to stop felons and mental defectives — those who cannot purchase a firearm from an FFL and those who are already prohibited from possessing firearms under federal law — is to punish responsible citizens by attacking 2A rights via criminalizing private transfers, banning gun shows and Internet sales, and prohibiting DIY gun kits. Oh, and don’t forget more wholesale gun confiscation. Because guns and gun owners are the problem. There are just too damn many of them.

The socialist politicians do know that gun control does not make a difference in crime. They have to know because the statistics overwhelmingly back that up. However, your average socialist democrat does not do any research on their own, they just listen to the politicians fear spreading propaganda and assume they are being truthful. They’ve started believing that if guns were illegal then no one would have them. That is a very simplistic and dangerous way of thinking because the truth is that if guns were illegal then only criminals would have guns. The politicians are aware of this but they hire armed security for their protection and don’t concern themselves with our protection. They just want to take away from law abiding citizens because an unarmed citizen is a compliant citizen who can not defend themselves against tyranny. Once we lose our right to keep and bear arms we become subjects rather than citizens. For those who believe fighting tyranny against a government with F-22’s and nuclear weapons is useless, just look at the terrorists that we have been in conflict with for over twenty years. A group of unorganized rebels with rifles have proven themselves to be all but impossible to beat and a huge pain in the ass for any government to deal with. These socialist politicians aren’t going to protect you. They don’t want to protect you. They simply want you to be unable to protect yourself so you can not be a huge pain in their asses when they push you into a corner.

While there are far higher guns per capita (a deliberately misleading figure), gun ownership per household is far lower today (oscillating between 37% and 47% since 1972, with 42% today) than the nearly 90% at the time of our founding. The numbers of guns in private ownership, overwhelmingly in the hands of law abiding citizens, being allegedly responsible for the higher amount of violent crime, is like comparing apples to aardvarks; there is no correlation whatsoever. As it has been for nearly 50 years, the vast majority of guns in the hands of criminals are either stolen or criminally transferred. The number of legally purchased guns used in crimes is so small as to be statistically insignificant. The largest factor has been the precipitous decline in gun crime prosecutions. Criminals who illegally posses guns or use them in crimes are getting little, if any, serious prosecution. Which creates the revolving door of criminals committing crime after crime, and rarely paying a hefty price. Chicago is a prime example, with massive gun crime and rarely, if ever a prosecution on federal gun laws. This would put away the most violent offenders for long periods of time, to the point that it would be a serious deterrent to any gang member, possibly facing decades behind bars for even a poorly aimed drive-by. The answer is not, nor ever has been, gun control. The only answer is CRIMINAL control.

  • Cliff July 18, 2021, 3:59 pm

Here in communist-run N.Y. the “emperor” (cuomo) “royally decreed” “bail reform laws that lets criminals right back on the streets after they commit their crimes. Now he and his minions are crying they want their POWER and CONTROL back because we have a “emergency gun problem”. We DO NOT have a “gun problem” we have a CRIMINAL PROBLEM (cuomo’s “voting block”) he wants to disarm the LAW-ABIDING citizens of N.Y., in order to protect his CRIMINAL friends from getting SHOT while they are committing their crimes.
We have a DEMOCRAT “problem” if anything, and ALL ant-America, Anti-freedom democommunists should be removed fro positions of power.

  • Whathappenedtomycountry July 17, 2021, 7:54 pm

See Dick, Dick thinks guns make people commit crimes. Dick is a moron. Don’t be a dick.

  • Bill July 17, 2021, 1:39 pm

    message to dick durban:
Listen up you socialist wannabe if you useless idiots would PUNISH criminals and add a mandatory 5 or 10 year sentence when the felon is convicted and used a gun in a commission of a crime with no plea bargaining it away it would go a long way toward diminishing the shootings. Incredibly it would only hamper your democrat voting block. Just one further comment; TERM LIMITS. One 6 year term , no further holding of ANY elected office and a 5 year absence before being appointed to ANY government job.

  • Rich b July 17, 2021, 12:13 pm

It’s funny how Democrats don’t understand that law abiding citizens with firearms represent no threat to anyone. It’s criminals with firearms that are the problem. Why can’t I see that? What we send you there for Durban is to figure out how to control criminals not law-abiding citizens. If you can’t figure out how to do that you’re not helping the problem at all go home and collect your pension.

  • Stan d. Upnow July 17, 2021, 10:30 am

    Look, this is the situation-
The Progressive-Socialists(erroneously called Democrats) will Always be pushing towards their final goal of total elimination of private gun ownership. It’s the Communist model, and they are nothing but proto-Communists. To the Leftist scum, any means justifies the end. That’s why they constantly try to foist the most outrageous lies and deceptions on the general public, whom they regard as ignorant cretins to be manipulated.
To them, freedom-loving gun owners represent an omnipresent threat to their establishment of what they will likely term a “democratic dictatorship.” It’s for your own good, you understand. And if you Don’t understand, well, there’s a nice, cozy spot reserved for you in one of the soon-to-be “re-education camps.”

  • Tank July 17, 2021, 10:27 am

Tell Durbin to go home without his security detail and ask his liberal minority votes to stop the black on black violence. Will the gang members comply

  • Clint W. July 17, 2021, 10:03 am

How about opening the jail cell doors and letting the criminals go free? How about no longer arresting people for crimes that used to require it? How about judges who give nursery school punishment for violent offenders?

40 years ago, a radio show called Focus on the Family has a segment where James Dobson tallked about follow rules. He gave a prime example of a policemen. Why do we give policemen a firearm? Why do we give them a vehicle that can chase you down? Why do we give them the authority to arrest you? Simple, because if all we did was empower them to stand on the street corner and holler at you. “Now, you stop that!”, “That as no-no!”, “You’re making me mad!”, as you went by breaking the law, what kind of law and order would you have. Now the judges and the politicians are telling the police to do just that.

Don’t belly ache here, have your Reps email address in you contact list and send them your thoughts. We saws hat happens when folks try to do the old manner of protest back on 1/6, pitchforks and flaming faggots(the burning torch kind), the power of the pen is about all that is left right now. At the rate it is going though, it could very well become a bit more intense.

If every sane adult were required to have a firearm for public safety and national security, crime and tyranny would end. In a “constitutional republic” like China, Cuba, Indonesia, Iran, Vietnam, and Venezuela, only the government can vote to make laws. If governments were disarmed and all citizens were armed, only citizens could vote to make laws.

  • Matt July 16, 2021, 12:32 pm

The problem isn’t too many guns. The problem is that there are too many people in our society that have a low re guard for human life and want to live a life of crime. Which is sensationalized by our media and Hollywood. The rest of us have to carry to defend ourselves.

There are few corrections for this. Only a change in those person’s hearts can fix it. And I know of only one way that can happen. A return of Christians to what they were taught and with God’s help the spread of that way of life by them. Until then it’s going to get worse.

  • George Ingols July 16, 2021, 12:28 pm

We have guns because this is still a FREE country. What we do have far too many of is corrupt politicians and bureaucrats padding their own pockets and those of like minded co-conspirators. The Vivid Hoax and fraudulent election were all aimed at President Trump because of his efforts to root out the corruption in Washington DC, Big Tech, Big Pharma and the media.

  • DELCO July 16, 2021, 12:14 pm

Why are the suburbs so safe and our inner cities completely RUINED? Why is it that the people I hang around have dozens of Guns and not one of them have ever gone out and shot up a street, participated in a drive by shooting, held up a store, or committed A SINGLE CRIME? I have many friends and people I shoot with who are yet to be involved in any sort of criminal behavior, let alone an incident where they found it necessary to go out and use a firearm. NOT 1! But literally every damm day/night we have dozens of shootings only miles away in the cities. And average weekend in Chicago/Baltimore/Philadelphia/ and almost all blue controlled cities have 50-75 shootings. That is every weekend, for decades. And not 1 shooting in the suburbs. Maybe the occasional clown who decides to be a fool and pretend he’s a tuff guy. That’s it period. And the suburban areas have many more guns then the inner cities have. Why is it that the Philadelphia/Baltimore/Chicago school systems didn’t have even 1 student that was above 50% proficient in BASIC math and English. Not 1 damm kid. The yearly budget for the Baltimore school system is $17 BBBBILLION! It’s a disgrace. I was no great student but I passed basic understanding of math , ya know in case at some point in my life I needed to you know maybe pay a bill, balance a checking account, rent of buy a property. We have TRAITORS within our Government folks. These Traitors are disguised as politicians who for the sole reason of retaining power have refused to stand up , speak the truth about what is really happening. Unfortunately when someone even thinks about speaking the truth about inner city issues they are attacked and called a racist, so they continue to support fraudulent groups like. BLM, Antifa, knowing damm well they would never want any of their own kids to live in a majority of the neighborhoods they represent, or join ANTIFA. Eventually law abiding citizens who want to be responsible for their lives and actions are not going to be able to move to a suburb that is far enough away from the ruined inner city agendas, and the push back is going to make dirtbags like Durbin to decide is it time to actually lock up criminals, is it OK to have Guns, is it in our best interest to have wide open borders that flood our communities with the most potent and addictive drugs ever produced. The rage within the good people is overflowing, and it’s beyond time to call out what’s happening in the cities. When losers like durbin can show us 1 red controlled suburban area that has crime like the blue controlled areas, let us know. Our inner cities are at this point FOREVER RUINED. And they are not coming back any time in this lifetime. When a business is bankrupt, and has failed we replace management or close shop. The blue politicians that run the inner cities have gone bankrupt long ago. Ask yourself would you go buy a place in west Philadelphia? HAHA GOOD LUCK. How about the entire east side of Baltimore, I’d pray for your survival. It’s not small selective areas of these cites, it’s entire cities that are WRECKED. Let’s all contribute to renting the nicest place we can find in Chicago for 1 year, and then have dick and his family go live there , after that year is up if they are still alive, we can then start to listen to what he had to say. Durbin wouldn’t even drive through any of those neighborhoods he represents. Speaking the truth is not racism, not trying to prevent certain cultures from having 10 kids with 10 people, explaining being a rapper or ball player is not the only way to make money, this is necessary for any hope of a generation to even begin to become civilized.

  • Awesome Bill from Dawsonville July 16, 2021, 12:12 pm

The problem is we don’t have term limits and we also have too many career politicians. Durbin was also the guy who wanted to ban “sniper rifles” because he said that you could go to what was then the Sears Tower and shoot Sammy Sosa out of right field at Wrigley.

  • Hunter James July 16, 2021, 12:01 pm

There’s a reason this buffoon has the first name that he does.

I bet durbin has more guns than anyone. If there are too many guns, and too much gun violence, why are you letting violent, gun offending criminals out of prison? Hey duebin you should have been riding on a unicycle juggling while you said that!

  • Oldwestman July 16, 2021, 11:43 am

By that logic there are too many indoor toilets, too many TV’s, too many automobiles, too many politicians, too many buildings, and the list goes on. What the number of firearms has to do with violence I don’t know, but I’ll l bet the number of criminals, in and out of government, has a lot to do with it. If we would catch and punish harshly, violent criminals, I’ll bet the violence would suddenly go down.

  • Grant Stevens July 16, 2021, 11:10 am

The real problem is that there are too many politicians like Durbin who violate their oath of office every time they author, sponsor and vote for legislation that prevents law-abiding American citizens from exercising their unalienable right to keep and bear arms. And shame on us for allowing them to get away with it.

  • Richard Cranium July 16, 2021, 11:00 am

It seems to me that Biden’s open border policy is causing an OPIOID PANDEMIC with drugs being smuggled in to the tune of over 100,000 deaths per year, a minimum of 2.5 times more than people using firearms kill every year. Shouldn’t the administration be focusing on the killers like drug dealers and smugglers as well as doctors and hospitals that kill far more people every year than guns do.

Just too many damn people who lack Moral values out there is the REAL problem.
I have tried time and again, but no matter how often I leave my gun(s) laying about in my house (no kids), it just refuses to jump up and shoot anyone.
Is alcoholism prevalent because there’s too much booze out there? ????
Are distracted driving accidents because there are too many cell phones out there?????
In EVERY case the PROBLEM is due to PEOPLE, NOT the inanimate object or substance of choice.
To blame the object or substance is to allow or even enable the person in question to duck or shirk THEIR responsibility in matter.
PEOPLE are the issue, not guns, not substances, not devices.
With Rights come responsibilities, if you can’t be responsible, you should lose those Rights in our society.
That’s why Felons shouldn’t vote or own guns, they proved they can’t be trusted.

  • Alej Marcos July 16, 2021, 10:27 am

Too many shltbag Yankee politicians out there.

  • VAP8RI0 July 16, 2021, 10:11 am

Once again…hey “Dick”…first, we already have background checks, it’s called NICS and it works well until the government fails to update its info and databases. Second, there are NO INTERNET SALES of firearms direct to the public, only to FFL dealers. Third, every gun show I’ve been to over the last 20 years, legitimate dealers still use NICS for purchasers. Anyone engaging in a private sale to strangers without some form of ID risks the firearm being used for illicit purposes. Also, firearms purchased at shows and used in crimes constitute only about 3% last I read. That would also include legitimate purchases thru reputable dealers. So “Dick”…stop the thievery of legally owned firearms and jail straw purchasers for about 10 years and enforce what laws you have already. You may see a decline…if you open your politically glued eyes you moron.

  • Don Craig July 16, 2021, 10:06 am

It’s a stupid argument. We also have more people (350,000,000+) than we did when the Constitution was drafted. We have unimaginable cities with unimaginable inner-city gangs and violence that account for most of the violent deaths, by knife or gun or fists. That’s were gun violence needs to be stopped. Not by harassing an old NRA member who only shoots for recreation at a sanctioned shooting range. The principles and rights in the Constitution still apply today.

    • Bill July 17, 2021, 1:56 pm

We also have a government not imagined by the founding fathers. They wanted a congress that was part time short term meeting and then back to normal life. They did not envision a congress that would have 30 or 40 year office holders.

It’s politicians like “durbin” and the rest of his commiecrats that are the blame. They threaten over half of the citizens in the country that disagree with them. Guess they also forget in their power grab who we as a people are and how our country came to be a free nation !

  • Nicholas July 16, 2021, 9:15 am

When does anyone who believes themselves to be a supporter of the RKBA tell people such as Durbin that the original Constitution commands that there be an armed citizenry.
COMMANDS! Does anyone in this community care, or was Patrick Henry’s concern over the character of man absolutely correct?
The original Constitution COMMANDS that there be a Militia that operates under statute as the Framers knew it to be. Not what modern Americans completely misunderstand it to be.
The original Constitution ostensibly says that in order for “We the People” to maintain our sovereignty over government, and therefore public officials, we must also maintain our States Militia. All able bodied men capable of bearing arms, ORGANIZED AND DISCIPLINED as “civilians primarily, soldiers on occasion.”.
The 2nd amendment tells us that what is “necessary to the security of a free State” is Militia as it was during the colonial times, and subsequently after the ratification. They wouldn’t have put it in the original Constitution and the Bill of Rights if they wanted it to go away, or morph into an impotent entity.

  • Patrick Bennett July 16, 2021, 9:10 am

Durbin has always been a disingenuous politician following their immoral “bible” of while never admitting wrongdoing, be sure to play cya by loudly casting blame on something or someone that the less intelligent segment of society can easily be led to become blindly incited against.
Anyone with a smidgen of sense can see that the murder/crime hell-holes of major (in population only, but certainly not in societal progress) cities like Chicago, Detroit, LA, etc. became that way under long term Democrat control.
But rather than admit that THEY are to blame, and make necessary changes to improve those cities, the Dems picked destruction of 2A as the solution.
But America is at a crossroads now.
The Democrats, as evidenced by their support of Antifa violence and removal of all identification photos/valid ID from voting are hell bent on getting a PERMANENT iron grip on running the USA.
Time to take them completely seriously and fight their evil plan to the MAX.
One thing we must be careful of in doing so. While I am a staunch Conservative, I still see that the Republicans are no angels either. Stay alert and independent in your thinking. Both parties hurl criminally accusative charges against the other. Both have some members who will lie thru their teeth to increase their own power.
Add to this the fact that more money brings greater control of you and I. The huge amounts of money that major
Corporations pour into politics only serve to make ” GOVERNMENT BY THE PEOPLE” no longer a truth in America.
One particular issue I believe Conservatives must start to question is the often opposed by Republicans is something that EVERY other civilized advanced nation (Germany, UK, France, Russia, Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Czech Republic, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Hungary, etc. etc.) in the world has.
Health care for ALL its Citizens.
Having Social Security doesn’t make the USA a socialist nation. Neither would bealth care for all citizens.
I receive SS and Medicare both. No freebies there; I paid into both for decades.
Like when you pay for health insurance or disability coverage. Neither makes the USA a socialist country.
Of course, the big insurance companies, Big Pharma, and associated enterprises will no longer have so much money to continue controlling our politicians.
And why are the SAME meds, and medical procedures so much more expensive here?
The 2 biggest reasons I could never vote Democrat are abortion and 2A.
But one day I realized that the Republicans also were serving some special interests for their benefit, not ours.
Big changes must happen to put power back in the hands of the people
And not all those changes will result from defeating the Dems alone.

    • Martin Beijersbergen July 16, 2021, 11:20 am

      You are right
Country’s that have a high standard of living have low crime rate.
Guns have nothing to do with it take Switzerland every able bodied person has his military weapon at home.
However the tax burden will be high for this to happen.
And the government is not giving up the already collected taxes for this idea.
      😊

  • Pete July 16, 2021, 9:00 am

Durbin is just one more simple minded liberal like Biden. He thinks he has the magic pill to solve the crime problem. WRONG!!
Fatherless homes, poor schools in the cities, gangs, drugs flowing in across the open border, revolving door no-bail ‘justice system, liberal judges, elimination of Stop, Question, & Frisk, sanctuary cities & states, etc.

Durbin deal with solving these problems, they are the reason for criminal violence!

  • RIFLE RANCH July 16, 2021, 8:45 am

Apparently like most politicians, Durbin is uninformed. Defunding and overregulating police and NOT addressing the gang problem in the cities as well as the surge in drug used that became legal?(cannabis) is a compounding social issue. How about the BILLION DOLLAR pot farm in California that was filtering the goods through “legal” stores??? Chicago has been lost to the gangs and is getting worse by the minute. BLM is a Marxist joke as they do not address B on B murders and be it known by the dozens every week in Chicago alone.. Witnesses to frightened of gang reparations to speak up allows the element to get a pass. The politicians only way to placate is to attack a inanimate object instead of the problems.

  • Bill Kaline July 16, 2021, 8:40 am

Here is yet another example of incompetent elected officials not knowing anything about real facts concerning gun ownership by law-abiding citizens, who are not the problem, but those like Durbin who wish to curtail the freedoms of American gun owners. Restrictive gun laws can only harm law-abiding people and have no positive effect on crime whatsoever.
Has any anti-gun politician ever made an anti-gun law that actually worked? I believe not. When will they ever learn?

  • Wilko July 16, 2021, 8:39 am

Durbin remains a fool. The relationship is inverse. The more violent crime there is, the more honest citizens buy guns to protect themselves.

  • CountryBoy July 16, 2021, 8:18 am

There are NOT “too many guns”…… there are Too Many CRIMINALS on the street.

  • Wayne Rausch July 16, 2021, 8:15 am

Of course, the crime spike has nothing to do with selectively eliminating various crimes as crime, defunding the police, opening up the southern border to a myriad of criminals from other countries or allowing various organized criminal groups like antifa and BLM to commit crime with impunity! It clearly isn’t Blue state politicians like the fish ugly mayor of Chicago or the leftist moron Ted Wheeler of weird-ass Portland, who marches with criminals, that are the cause of more violence. Nope, that’s just too damn logical for a liberal to wrap their “feelings” around, so it simply has to be attributed to guns.

“Gun violence” is the clarion call of all of the pathetic, empty headed, Godless, LGBTQ..WXYZ, pro-abortion, lying, scheming, anti-American Cabal of leftist fools. How about just plain human violence? Was there a time in history it was called “Club violence?” “Sword violence?” “Spear violence?” IDIOTS!!

  • survivor50 July 16, 2021, 8:13 am

Sooo… according to that CHART, as gun ownership goes UP… crime goes DOWN ! (That’s been observed in every state it’s been tried.) At 56% ownership, Crime Rate was down 49% !!! Not bad… not bad at all !

Now what would you think the CRIME RATE would be… if we were at 100% Gun Ownership ? 98% reduction perhaps ??? Could you live with THAT ?

(Only for those who choose to be armed, of course… The rest of you, may GOD help you…)

    • Rabbit July 16, 2021, 8:56 am

      Just Too Damn Many politicians

  • Jim Hovater July 16, 2021, 8:10 am

Marxist Democrats HATE firearm ownership because such represents the purest essence of personal INDEPENDENCE.

  • srsquidizen July 16, 2021, 8:09 am

The founders envisioned EVERY able-bodied man of good character being armed and willing to defend freedom. So we still have a ways to go assuming there are any of those left in places where it’s virtually impossible to get a gun.

  • James Morrison July 16, 2021, 8:06 am

No, but there are way too many illegal alien gang members in need of deportation.

  • James Miller July 16, 2021, 7:57 am

I was going to make a comment, but it has all been stated already by others ahead of me. All I can wonder is why do the people Durbin supposedly “represents” keep electing him?

    • Mark July 16, 2021, 9:29 am

An interesting question that. In fact, in Illinois, like in New York, the people in the “hinterland” have little to say about how their state runs. In Illinois, it’s the Chicago vote (legitimate or otherwise) that, as a practical matter, controls what goes on. Those folks (or at least those who count the votes) LIKE Durban and his irrational thinking. He’s “in” with the Chicago “machine” and that’s all that counts in Illinois. The people I feel sorry for are those elsewhere in the state who vote and vote and never get heard at all.

      • James Miller July 16, 2021, 10:07 am

I should have known that, Mark. Same thing here with Detroit, Lansing, Flint overpowering us in the rest of the state. It is unfortunate that an “Electoral College” type system implemented in the states.

      • Bill V July 16, 2021, 10:13 am

Your comments are very well made and spot on. The major cities in IL & NY totally dominate politics in otherwise conservative states. Most of NY outside the city is sparsely populated and/or farmland. An election map of NY shows red county after red county that have sparse populations completely overwhelmed by the blue NYC counties. Interesting that the states function as pure democracies while the federal government is a representative republic. State senators in NY are apportioned by population! While the state has a senate and a house they are not the equal of the federal bicameral legislature.

As for Durbin, he is the typical career politician. Try to hold him accountable for the violence in Chicago: ask him what he’s done in 20+ years as one of the most powerful politicians in IL or the senate to make things better; ask him why he deserves to be re-elected despite a track record of abject failure. Now here comes the clever part – blame the 2A! Totally out of his control, difficult to change, out of state guns (can’t control that either). His solution- pass unconstitutional laws!
As others have said far better, the heart of man is evil (The Bible), bind him with chains at every opportunity (the Framers)…

      • bill July 17, 2021, 2:27 pm

Mark it’s the same in commifornia. Newsome carried only 22 of 58 counties but won getting near 70% of the vote. In L.A. county he won by 2 to 1 votes BUT only 32% of registered voters voted.

  • george griffin July 16, 2021, 7:48 am

“We have more guns in this nation than anyone who wrote the Second Amendment could ever have envisioned,” -Sen. Dick Durbin
These Dems never get that the 2nd amendment does not grant us the right to bear arms, it guarantees it, it would be the same as saying “we have more religions in the nation than anyone who wrote the First Amendment could ever have envisioned,” or “We have more people using freedom of speech in this nation than anyone who wrote the First Amendment could ever have envisioned,” or this one ” We have more accused criminals demanding a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury in this nation than anyone who wrote the Fifth Amendment could ever have envisioned,” If you say it for one, you have to say it for all, they just don’t get that.

  • JJO July 16, 2021, 7:42 am

The problem is we have too many damned politicians, more than the constitution ever envisioned.

  • KetchumKenny July 16, 2021, 7:41 am

Let’s face it. The ChiComm have infiltrated our intelligence organizations and our government officials. They got rid of Trump with a man made virus and they are now using their paid for politicians to disarm us. Damn traitors.

  • kc (sire/your majesty) July 16, 2021, 7:14 am

More like “too damn many idiots out there.” And Durbin has no stomach to do anything about them. His party supports defunding police, no cash bail, and Lori Lightweight has limited pursuit of criminals. What could possibly go wrong?

  • Jimmy Django July 16, 2021, 7:12 am

subtract all the bad guys weaponry and we are a much more reasonable # dick head ! use your head for something other than a grifting hat rack . . . . damn commie

  • Orville Clift July 16, 2021, 7:09 am

Durbin is, and always has been, a liberal wingnut.

  • Dr Motown July 16, 2021, 7:03 am

When did Dickhead Turban ever buy a gun on-line without a NICS check?

  • Steven July 16, 2021, 6:59 am

There’s just too many damn Democrats out there.

  • horntex July 16, 2021, 6:50 am

We have too damn many politicians that have turned their back on our Constitution and need to be voted out.

  • Parnell July 16, 2021, 6:43 am

  • Damn dem July 16, 2021, 6:37 am

This guy is a waste of space…following his nwo cia logic spoons make people fat

  • Wj Chapman July 16, 2021, 6:26 am

Change the law, not the gun law. Change the way we penalize people for committing crimes. When you start figuring out how to penalize people for committing crimes with weapons, and a brutal punishment they’ll be less crimes I promise you. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. So Congress Democrats. Pull your head out of your ass

    • Mark July 16, 2021, 9:39 am

You’re correct, that would reduce crime. But the Democrat party (and for that matter many Republicants too) has no interest in doing that. Much of their vote comes from the communities from which many of those criminals arise. If they start making sure that Cousin Billy’s or Uncle Johnny’s sentence is much longer for knocking over the liquor store or shooting the guy down the street for “dissing” him — then that voting bloc might start to dissolve, and THAT would leave Democrats more often out of work. It’s all about POWER for them, not solving society’s problems. Heck if they solved all the problems, who’d need government then? It’d be more the size it was contemplated to be, and a whole boatload of politicians would have to go and find honest work. And we certainly couldn’t have THAT happening, could we?

      • bill July 17, 2021, 2:31 pm

“sure that Cousin Billy’s or Uncle Johnny’s sentence is much longer”

“sure that Cousin thundell or Uncle mose s’ sentence is much longer”
there I fixed it for you.

  • Dr. Strangelove July 16, 2021, 6:05 am

I never could stand that lying sack of durbin. I’m glad that I moved out of the People’s Republik of Illinois.

  • G Turner July 16, 2021, 5:05 am

I saw all those “guns” out there burning churches, stores and looting businesses- them damn “guns” have to go . What a tool- he’s only been in Congress since like Vietnam- I’m sure he going to straighten out THIS issue – unbelievable

  • Tiki701 July 16, 2021, 4:46 am

Yeah, I keep trying to catch him, but I haven’t yet ! But I know that my AR-15 goes out on its own and shoots up neighborhoods and causes all kind of mayhem ! Them damn guns have a mind of their own !

  • Mark Hopkins July 16, 2021, 3:38 am

Well, what do you expect? He’s a communist and a “DICK”.

  • Scotty Mac July 16, 2021, 3:02 am
