A Christmas Wishlist: 5 Guns You Should Gift To Yourself

Christmas is the magical time of year when wishes are granted and we are surrounded by giving. But we can’t rely on our significant other to pick up on the not-so-subtle hints that we’ve been dropping all year. So, why not grant your own wishes by giving yourself one, or all, of my favorite guns on this Christmas wishlist, using your hard-earned cash?

Okay, I know that it isn’t always feasible to buy them all. But I promise the five guns that I’ll list are guaranteed to leave you with some holiday happiness, not buyer’s remorse.

FN SCAR 15P for Christmas

Since we are wishing on stars, I figured we’d just start with the most expensive on this list: the FN SCAR 15P. This gun is a 7.5-inch barreled 5.56×45 pistol with a short-stroke gas piston operating system and 19.75-inch overall length. Coming in at 5.65 pounds and being equipped with a Picatinny rail for buttstock or brace attachments, the SCAR 15P is a great balance of firepower and portability and can be SBR’d easily with the right paperwork. This is a gun that I originally thought I would not enjoy because the short barrel lodges it in pretty niche applications.

However, after witnessing the legendary SCAR reliability and ruggedness, I couldn’t not fall in love with it. Also, my SCAR 15P holds 1 MOA accuracy with many different ammunition types in the 70-grain range and suppresses nicely. On that note, FN has stated that the SCAR can be suppressed reliably with a suppressor of the flow-through type and this does not waive the warranty of the gun, as many people have incorrectly thought.

The SCAR 15P is a natural extension of the SCAR product line, and naturally, performs flawlessly.

PTR 9KT for Christmas

Another fantastic option to SBR, the PTR 9KT is a gun that I recommend gifting yourself for Christmas! This MP5K clone is an American-manufactured option that brings all of the features that have made the HK MP5 famous, at half the price. The 9KT has a roller-delayed blowback operating system, which makes it a fantastic suppressor host. And the 13.3-inch overall length makes it extremely portable. In combination, this gun is not only a fun range toy, but can also make a great briefcase gun that goes wherever you go.

Seekins Havak HIT for Christmas

Now to shake up the short-barreled theme, the Seekins Havak HIT makes this list because of the crazy amount of features that it has to offer for its $2,100.00 MSRP. This precision-centered rifle features a quick-change barrel system, aluminum chassis, folding adjustable stock, integrated bag rider, and other outstanding features for a factory rifle offering. This precision rifle is a good fit for long range competitive shooting as well as hunting.

A full review of the rifle used in both applications will be available soon on GunsAmerica Digest, so watch for that. Unfortunately, because they are such a value and perform outstandingly, the HIT is difficult to find in stock currently.

Seekins Havak HIT sits on a rock in mountainous terrain.

Seekins is based in Idaho and manufactures all their guns under one roof. The consistency and quality control they get from this is evident in all of their rifles, and the HIT is one of many firearms they produce that I recommend putting on your Christmas wishlist.

Springfield Prodigy for Christmas

The Springfield Prodigy is one of my favorite firearms of 2023. This handgun is a great option for gun enthusiasts to get a good quality 2011 at a reasonable price. For those who were unaware, a 2011 is a 1911-style pistol that differs mainly from a double stack magazine which offers a much higher mag capacity. The Prodigy comes in either a 4.25″ or 5″ barreled model, and both are optics-ready versions that use optics mounting plates which open up endless options. The fit and feel of the Prodigy is fantastic, even without considering its price. For any shooter interested in taking their handgun skills to the next level, the Prodigy will certainly enable you.

Springfield Prodigy handgun lays on tan 5.11 pistol case.

As some of you already know, a quality 2011 typically costs anywhere from $2,500 – $7,000 or more because of the need for hand-fitted parts. However, the Springfield Prodigy starts at $1,499 and only goes to $1,699 for the most expensive model. Yes, I will admit that these much more expensive guns are better in some regards, but are they $5,000 better?! Not to 99% of gun owners! I see the Prodigy as an intro to 2011s that many people can afford and upgrade at their leisure. After putting $750 in upgrades and gunsmithing charges into mine, I’d argue that it outperforms many guns that cost thousands of dollars more!

Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol for Christmas

The Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol is a shotgun that we are not strangers to at GunsAmerica. Having thoroughly tested it (review here) already, I can say with certainty that this self-defense oriented shotgun performs on a much higher level than the price suggests. Offered in 12 gauge with a 7+1 capacity and having an overall length of 38″, this heavy hitter performs best at close quarters.

The A300 Ultima Patrol has MLOK slots on the forend and magazine tube clamp, providing ample real estate for lights, lasers, or other attachments. Thanks to a picatinny rail on top of the action, you also have the option to mount a variety of optics. Some optics will even co-witness with the ghost ring sights that this shotgun comes with.
