Elvis Presley’s engraved revolver fetched a staggering $199,750 at Rock Island Auction Company’s recent Premier Auction.

The Smith & Wesson Model 53, once owned by the King of Rock & Roll, was a highlight of the three-day event. The auction grossed over $21 million and attracted international attention.

Original estimates valued the gun between $60,000 and $90,000. However, global bidding, fueled by Elvis enthusiasts and firearm collectors, pushed the final price past expectations.

RIAC President Kevin Hogan commented on the surging collectibles market.

“The collectibles market has been experiencing unprecedented growth in several genres,” said Hogan in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica.

“When you combine two of those genres, Elvis memorabilia and collector firearms, the result is tremendous excitement and high totals at auction,” he added.

Master Engraver Russell Smith embellished the revolver with a bicentennial theme. Delivered to Elvis just months before his death, its craftsmanship and association with Presley amplify its value.

Rock Island Auction previously auctioned other Presley-owned revolvers. In 2017, Elvis’s Colt Python and Smith & Wesson Model 19-2 went for $172,500 and $195,500, respectively.

The sale reinforces the rising demand for firearms linked to historical and pop culture figures.

In 2022, Rock Island Auction sold Han Solo’s “Star Wars” blaster for $1,057,500. A revolver from John Wayne’s movies fetched $517,500 the year prior.

Following these successes, Rock Island Auction announced an expansion to Bedford, TX.

Touted as a state-of-the-art venue for arms auctions, the new site will debut this December. Consignments for the inaugural event remain open until Sept. 11.

I always wanted a model 53, matter of fact, back in 1980 after turning 21, I found a 8 3/8 model like new in the walnut box including the .22LR inserts for $350. That was a lot of money to me back in day, so I put $10 down and had it held on layaway … and then forgot about it. I never went back for my $10! Boy I wish I had that gun in my collection!

As I remember, the .22 Jet was a flop in this design because of cylinder binding up due to the taper on the .22 Jet cartridge. I wonder if Elvis ever fired his 53? Definitely too pretty to shoot now!
