In a bold move this week, Gun Owners of America (GOA) and Gun Owners Foundation (GOF) have set their legal sights on New York’s “Concealed Carry Improvement Act,” petitioning the U.S. Supreme Court for a writ of certiorari.

This action follows the passage of a law they believe not only misses the mark but also blatantly ignores previous Supreme Court rulings.

The draconian legislation, born in the wake of a Supreme Court slap-down of New York’s may-issue concealed carry permitting scheme, is completely wrongheaded.

In fact, one can argue that the new law is even more restrictive than the one previously shot down in the Bruen decision.

GOA didn’t waste any time challenging the law in federal court, where Judge Glenn Suddaby repeatedly sided with them, blocking several key provisions.

However, the plot thickened as the Second Circuit Court of Appeals stepped in, siding with the law’s anti-gun supporters and keeping much of it intact. This intervention has led to today’s high-stakes filing with the Supreme Court.

The controversial law still standing requires would-be concealed carriers to jump through several hoops, including:

  • Proving “good moral character”
  • Participating in in-person interviews with law enforcement
  • Providing four character references,
  • Undergoing a whopping 18 hours of training—up from a mere 4 hours

Erich Pratt, GOA’s Senior Vice President, didn’t mince words.

“New York politicians just couldn’t help themselves when they quickly doubled down with their unconstitutional edicts following the Bruen decision,” said Pratt in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica.

“I’m incredibly confident the justices will take an extra close look at this case since their previous ruling was ignored by the insubordinate tyrants in Albany,” he continued. “We’re excited about the opportunity to serve Kathy Hochul and her cabal another plate of humble pie if the Court takes the case.”

Sam Paredes, speaking for the Board of Directors of the Gun Owners Foundation, echoed the sentiment.

“We sent the warning out to politicians far and wide following Bruen, fall in line or we will make you,” declared Paredes.

“Sadly, New York refused to honor the Constitution, so we have no choice but to follow through on our threat,” he added. “We urge the Court to take the case and once again rebuke New York’s unconstitutional gun control.”

As the legal showdown looms, eyes are on the Supreme Court to see if they will step into the fray and once again right a wrong in the Empire State.

The laws noted have been struck down. We can also carry any where except where booze is served and can carry in church. The author needs to do more research in new york

      The article points out that NY was forced to move from a “may-issue concealed carry permitting scheme” to a shall issue but requires the following;

      Proving “good moral character”
Participating in in-person interviews with law enforcement
      Providing four character references,
      Undergoing a whopping 18 hours of training—up from a mere 4 hours

What, in your opinion, did the article get wrong?

How are NY citizens ‘”proving good morale'” anything?

What is discussed in the “in-person” interviews?

Should the “four character references” also be vetted?

      Who pays for all this?

How many people do you know that successfully obtained these government permission slips?

I suspect that schools, parks, government buildings, public transportation and several other places are off limits and you would know those details if you did in fact were CC.

It still seems very restrictive for a constitutional right to me.

    {[Proving “good moral character”}]

Which to a Demshevik, does NOT included honoring the US Constitution. But according to a left winger, what does constitute proof of good moral character? Just for laughs, I would want to know how the left would elaborate on this issue.

No shit, a lefty turd would never qualify for a firearms permit , ever. These clowns have no clue what “ good moral character “ even is.
