You know, our open-carry brethren have been getting a bad rap lately for standing up for what they believe in and opting to lawfully exercise their fundamental right to keep and bear arms outside the home.

Some within the gun community say they go too far in attempting to educate the public on its right to carry openly and that instead of normalizing the practice they’re actually scaring and intimidating the non-gun owning public while, in the process, rankling local police.

I’d just like to say that we shouldn’t cut down our own, and that if one is going to be critical, one ought to be constructively critical and suggest solutions or practices that improve the overall open-carry movement. In today’s political climate where the 2A is under constant assault we need to recognize who the true enemy is. And it’s certainly not our open-carry friends!

At the end of the day, gun owners need to stand together and stay united in our mission to spread the gospel of responsible gun ownership. So, to have a little fun and to celebrate open-carry I’ve decided to riff off of Jeff Foxworthy and make a list of “You might be an open-carry activist if…”

Now, none of these are funny or witty, but they’re a start and I hope you’ll join me and add to the list in support of open-carry.

You might be an open-carry activist if…

-You purchase clothes, boots, belts to match your rifle.

-Everyone you encounter is extra polite, never forgetting to say, “Please” and “Thank You.”

-You believe the right to ‘bare’ arms is equally as important as the right to ‘bear’ arms.

-You know the letter of the law better than law enforcement.

-Moms Demand Action dislikes you more than it dislikes the NRA.

…..If the gun you carry covers more of your body than your clothing does.

…..if you notice the gun someone is carrying before you notice it covers more than their clothing does.
