Phoenix Homeowner Fatally Shoots Intruder Amidst Crime Concerns

Defensive Use of Firearms This Week

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Key Takeaways:

  • A Phoenix homeowner fatally shot Ricky Gomez, an alleged intruder, on October 5th, after he forcibly entered the home.
  • While the residents have declined to comment, a neighbor describes a sequence of loud banging followed by a gunshot; no members of the household were physically harmed.
  • The incident occurs within a context of notable neighborhood crime and follows a similar event in West Phoenix last September, where a young teenager shot an intruder.

Summary

On October 5th, near 17th Avenue and Coolidge in Phoenix, an alleged home intruder, 30-year-old Ricky Gomez, was shot and later died from his injuries after forcing entry into a residence just before 11:00 p.m.

A neighbor, Roger David, reported hearing the violent entry followed by a gunshot, although he did not witness the incident directly.

The residents of the home, a couple and their two daughters, have not provided comments.

The neighborhood reportedly experiences crime-related issues, with mentions of homelessness and disturbances.

“The light rail is right up there,” David told Fox10. “There’s homeless that hang out all around there. They go in the alley. We’ve had incidents with them trying to make homes in the alley, or someone throwing rocks at our house. I’ve had to call police on stuff like that.”

The Fox10 report includes a related incident from September, where a 13-year-old boy shot an intruder while protecting his family in West Phoenix.

In the recent case, it’s unconfirmed whether the children were present during the incident, and no physical injuries to the home occupants or arrests were reported.

Conclusion:

The occurrence of such home invasions, not only in Phoenix but elsewhere, underscores the importance of the Second Amendment rights for some individuals.

In instances where individuals are met with immediate and potentially life-threatening dangers, having the legal right to own a firearm for self-defense can be pivotal — as we all know.

Let’s just hope those on the outside of the 2A community begin to take note, too.

That location is on the west side of Phoenix. It’s a pretty rough area.
I heard about this the other day on the news. Doesn’t seem to happen a lot for a state with Constitutional Carry, although the media here in AZ is liberal as hell and probably doesn’t report half of what goes on.
Even with more liberals than I’d like, it’s good to live in a state where people aren’t harassed for defending themselves.

Nah, that side of town has a lot of white homeless, too. Sad but what can you do? Mostly drug-related, so they do it to themselves.
