Taking Aim at America’s Taxman: One Senator’s Mission to Disarm the IRS

Current Events Police State This Week

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

It’s not every day that you hear about the IRS packing heat. But that’s exactly what’s been happening, to the tune of $35.2 million. Iowa’s Senator Joni Ernst is saying enough is enough.

Ernst, the straight-shooting Republican, is spearheading a move to disarm the IRS. Yes, you heard it right. She’s calling out the tax agency for splurging taxpayer dollars on weapons, ammunition, and military-grade gear.

Since 2006, the IRS has been spending wildly. They’ve spent over $35.2 million on an arsenal that would make some small countries blush. They’ve dropped $10 million on weaponry and gear since 2020 alone.

Sen. Ernst Calls ‘Em Out

“The taxman is fully loaded at the expense of the taxpayer,” Ernst said in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica. “As the Biden administration has worked to expand the size of the IRS, any further weaponization of this federal agency against hardworking Americans and small businesses is a grave concern.”

“I’m working to disarm the IRS and return these dollars to address reckless spending in Washington,” she added.

Why Is the IRS Playing War

The question that’s tickling everyone’s mind is, why is the IRS playing at war?

According to Adam Andrzejewski, CEO of Open the Books, the IRS isn’t just buying handguns for self-defense. They’ve been stocking AR-style rifles, semi-automatic shotguns, and even submachine guns. They’ve also stockpiled 5 million rounds.

“The IRS special agent is starting to look less like a desk worker or rule maker and more like a SWAT team from a Hollywood thriller. It’s the blurring of the lines between a tax agency and traditional law enforcement,” observed Andrzejewski.

The Why Does the IRS Have Guns Act Would:

  • Prohibit the IRS from buying, receiving, or storing guns and ammo,
  • Transfer all guns and ammo currently in the IRS’ possession to the General Services Administration,
  • Auction off these guns and ammo to Federal Firearms License owners and devote proceeds to deficit reduction, and
  • Relocate the IRS Criminal Investigation Division within the Justice Department.

Ernst is doing more than just talking. She’s proposed the ‘Why Does the IRS Have Guns Act.’ The act would prohibit the IRS from buying, receiving, or storing guns and ammo. It would also force the IRS to offload its existing arsenal.

But here’s the kicker. The act stipulates that all this weaponry should be auctioned off to Federal Firearms License owners. And the money raised? It’ll be used for deficit reduction. A classic two-birds-one-stone move.

Furthermore, Ernst wants to relocate the IRS Criminal Investigation Division. She wants it under the Justice Department, where traditional law enforcement belongs.

This move is a stand against wasteful spending and overreach. Ernst is making a clear point: the IRS is a tax agency, not a paramilitary organization. The time has come to ask ourselves, why does the IRS need guns?

And, Ernst isn’t just demanding answers, she’s making moves and leading the charge for change – it’s high time someone stepped up to the plate.

The IRS has a new mark as of Tuesday. That one is a big one! Maybe they will need the firepower to stave off all the foreign entities who contributed to those alleged ill-gotten gains.

  • David June 20, 2023, 9:21 am

So I have taken the time to read through all of the replies to this article. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of hate being thrown back and forth amongst those who are supposed to be on the same side here. If we can’t even allow each other to express our First Amendment rights how we are ever going to present a united front? Okay, enough on that. Back to the article. Personally, I believe we have already have enough law enforcement agencies represented from the municipal level up through the federal level. So why do we need to arm the IRS. They are not law enforcement. What I want to know are the statistics on just how many IRS agents have been physically injured in the line of duty that justifies the need to arm them. This is not a debate on the character of these agents, their helpfulness, or their professionalism. It is a straight up question of why do they need to be armed. Until this can be justified to We The People, the tax payers who are paying for this while so many of our local police departments are being defunded, I for one cannot support this action.

  • Tenney Naumer, CPA, CFE June 17, 2023, 12:55 pm

Also, where is the “overreach”? Long gone are the days when the IRS behaved like jerks, busting down doors, etc. In the meantime, criminals have armed themselves with AR-15s. Should the IRS special agents then take a butter knife? It’s all hype, and I am sick of it. The IRS employees stayed at their posts when you-know-who shut down the government in a December when people need money for Christmas. I will tell you something, as a CPA, every time I get the IRS on the phone, the very first thing I do is compliment them for all they do under very difficult circumstances, and tell them how much I appreciate them. I have worked closely with revenue agents are audits – we have three offices in our building just for them to come in from Dallas or Fort Worth. I have to say that the Fort Worth agents were wonderful people (I didn’t have the opportunity to work with any from Dallas). But, due to defunding the IRS over the years, these agents had to do more and more audits, meaning that the audits stretched out and took 3 times as long to finish. Remember, for every dollar we fund the IRS, we get back over $7. That is a helluva return on investment! So many people are cheating now, that it is mind-blowing. That needs to stop.

This is a response to both of your posts. The issue being discussed here is NOT the typical field agents of these 3 letter agencies, the issue is the dangerous trends of the hierarchies of the IRS, FBI, ATF etc under a scary and strange partnership with the Democratic Party.

For instance, there is an example involving a left leaning journalist Matt Taibbi. Among the many articles and books he has authored is a book of satire on Trump titled “Insane Clown President.” Taibbi is far from a “right winger” but he stepped out of line and would sorely have beeen shipped of to a “re-education” camp if the left in the US had that much power at this point.

The offense committed by Taibbi and fellow journalist Michael Shellenberg is their concern over the restrictions on speech being imposed by the Democrats and their technocrat over lords (look into the details yourself or don’t bother). To make a long story short, Taibbi and Schellenberg testified before the House Select Commitee where both journalists were treated with respect by the Reps and contempt by the Dems. An ingnoramous (Dem) named Stacey Plaskette was fed lame lines from her clueless staff who called both witnesses “so called journalists.” Plaskette threatned Taibbi with 5 years in jail, both journalists were laughed at the Dem display of power hungry baffons (it all can be foung easily online).

So, here is the clincher, while Taibbi was testfying the IRS visited his home and left a threatening note. This stunt broke several guiding rules and laws that were probably never broken before. The IRS is NOT supposed to be used for witness intimidation. The IRS is NOT supposed to be used for political purposes and the IRS is NOT supposed to visit the home of a citizen without contacting that person first by other means.

BTW, whats your take on the Biden crime family “ill-gotten gains”?

  • Tenney Naumer, CPA, CFE June 17, 2023, 12:47 pm

This is dumb! I worked for a forensic accounting firm in Texas. The owner was a former special agent for the IRS. He used to run undercover criminals. He was a long tall handsome and very nice man. His colleagues told him that he got confessions because he “niced” the criminals to death. Making it all political is ridiculous. There are many criminal enterprises that are set up to avoid paying taxes. Remember, criminals can go to jail for a very long time for not paying taxes on their ill-gotten gains, just like Al Capone.

  • WyoShooter June 17, 2023, 11:16 am

Will these armed IRS robots, who will have very little firearms training and experience, be given qualified immunity like other tin badge tyrants? I would also like to know, which ammo manufacturers have sold 5 million rounds to the IRS.
Figuratively speaking, Ernst and her virtue signaling makes me want to vomit. Nothing ever happens with these dog and pony shows that “caring” politicians put on. The entire D.C. Regime will continue to subvert the Constitution and take away our rights any way possible.

  • TUC June 17, 2023, 9:20 am

Remember, Joni Ernst and Massie voted for more gun control. They are both lying RINOs.

  • Dr. Strangelove June 17, 2023, 8:17 am

Kind of late now. Just try taking them away.

  • Stan d. Upnow June 16, 2023, 7:40 pm

Why does the IRS need guns? Simple. To enforce their strong-armed extortion of the public when the Progressive-Socialists raise your taxes to impossible levels to “fight climate change” and promote “LBGT-whatever rights.”
Wouldn’t be surprised a bit if it was discovered the Left was staging these horrific mass shootings to falsely make a case for banning guns, which of course, they deny is their goal.

  • Elmer Keith June 16, 2023, 4:59 pm

To Sharonna’s point about how can we NOT (emphasis added) arm IRS agents when they face potentially hostile “clients” I think is the term they use now.0.2mg
Well, Sharonna, they are tax collectors not police, as the article points out. If a “client” needs to be visited in person and the tax man (or woman) feels uncomfortable, they should be able to contact a law enforcement officer from a pool of officers dedicated to that sort of task to accompany them on the visit. So Senator Ernst is spot on with this and I hope she is successful.

  • Kbc.kurt June 16, 2023, 2:38 pm

The IRS isn’t going after the capital gains taxes from illegal immigrants and are not tracking repayment of those taxpayer funds back to the Treasury department but plans on shooting legal US CITIZENS with firearms they ban? It doesn’t make sense.

    • Phil June 23, 2023, 8:06 am

      Close to spot on!

  • Sharonna June 16, 2023, 2:21 pm

The IRS is carrying weapons because there is a population in this nation who advertise they have a right to use their weapons against people who work for the government. I’ve seen people say that here even. Some of these people are having fits because the ATF is confiscating their FRT’s. They also tend to have irrational anger and hate for these people doing their job. How that can not be understood is beyond me.

    • Stan d. Upnow June 16, 2023, 7:45 pm

What’s an “FRT?” You seem to very naive, Sharonna. How old are you?

      • Phil June 23, 2023, 8:24 am

FRT. Maybe he’s referring to Federal Reserve Tokens such as the pennies, dimes, quarters, and fifty cent pieces. No real value except pot metal. All was removed in 1965 except pennies. and the pennies were made of zinc instead of copper starting in 1982. BTW, pennies have ceased production. Nickels are still made of copper and nickel, and last I looked it costs about 12 cents to make one. Now for the real issue: The IRS should turn in those weapons and stick to bookkeeping. Call for backup if needed.

    • Kane June 17, 2023, 5:31 pm

Sharonna, do you believe that there should be a Grand Jury to review the lethal shooting of Army veteran Ashli Babbitt by Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd?

Do you believe Byrd was well trained and displayed good judgement in killing Babbitt?

Was Byrd even interviewed by authorities after the shooting?

    • Daddy June 18, 2023, 6:12 pm

How do those boots taste, commie sheep?

  • Darryl June 16, 2023, 2:08 pm

oh man i can see it now they’ll be more of shooting each other than anything else just by watching these fools and how they handle these guns. i’d bet none of them have ever fired a weapon.
these are the last who need to be holding a gun and with a badge they’ll be shooting first and not even bother to ask any questions cause they’re the IRS and don’t need to mess with all that BS. they’re right and that all that matters.

    • Sharonna June 16, 2023, 3:04 pm

But it’s FINE for any John Q. Public? Some who think it’s reasonable to use a 3200 fps projectile for their neighborhood home protection? That advertise they have a right to shoot other Americans? (People who work for the government.) How about those that laughed at others saying their weapon was only scary looking, while coveting their Forced Reset and Binary Triggers? At least the IRS people are getting some training, AND vetting.

      • Stan d. Upnow June 16, 2023, 7:50 pm

So, which gun-ban group sent you to troll here? Or is it one of Biden’s stooge agencies?

  • Charles Freeman June 16, 2023, 1:49 pm

This is the mort perverted and corrupt government this nation has ever seen. I believe we’re past the point of correcting the course of this nation.

  • Dave June 16, 2023, 1:36 pm

With the likes of Schumer and McConnell, this will probably never even get to the floor. Weasels like the two former love the IRS as is.

  • Vietvet June 16, 2023, 1:33 pm

Stop the talk and get on with it! We the people are damn tired of talk and want action!

  • K. R. V. June 16, 2023, 10:08 am

We can’t allow the democrats to pull another 2020 to keep bydone, or anyone who they want in the White House!

    • KMacK June 16, 2023, 2:58 pm

Wanna bet? Registered Democrat and certified Gun Nut from California here: Never had a bit of trouble with my arsenal in what is probably the most restrictive state in the country. Of course all my stuff is “box stock” but hey, “box stock” has always worked 100% of the time (unlike a couple of barely legal “aftermarket” things I’ve tried out).
No, I can’t carry openly, but I did the work and got the Concealed permit, so no probs there. I spend a couple of hours a week the the local gun range(s) to keep my eye-hand coordination working right, and my 2″ avg @ 50 feet (pistol) in shape since I’m over seventy and, well, my eyes aren’t as good as they used to be.
So what’s the problem? No, I can’t put fancy (expensive) stuff on my weaponry, but hey, they work just fine as-is. Stuff that is regulated is generally stuff that can be repurposed into unlawful applications.
And no, I don’t plan on putting a “brace” on an AR-15 “Pistol” since I won’t have any of Stoner’s Abortions in my collection (and the whole problem came about due to some dopes using them as shoulder stocks – if they’d kept their traps shut, none of this “brace” business would have come about.)
Simply put, we need to focus on the common problem of the wrong people being able to get firearms in the first place, since that is the fuel that keeps the “Gun Banners” fires lit. Focus on the problem, educate the legislators, and offer usable alternatives to the restrictive ideas…that’s what works, not just digging in one’s heels and saying, “I ain’t gonna, an’ you can’t make me.” Offering usable ideas that work is going to be our way of winning, not outright resistance.

      • Kane June 17, 2023, 5:38 pm

You mention a number of restrictions, that will continue to grow while the number of firearms being “approved” by Ca will continue to shrink, but that’s OK with you?

Just count yourself lucky that you can still buy a scope for the old Mauser and your door has NOT been kicked in yet.

      • Stan d. Upnow June 16, 2023, 7:55 pm
