Trudeau Announces Radical Changes to Canada’s Gun Laws

Current Events S.H. Blannelberry This Week

The Canadian government announced this week that it is hoping to pass another sweeping package of gun control measures, including a national freeze on handgun ownership.

“One Canadian killed by gun violence is one too many,” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday, during the unveiling of what’s known as “Bill C-21.”

“I’ve seen all too well the tragic cost that gun violence has in our communities across the country. Today, we’re proposing some of the strongest measures in Canadian history to keep guns out of our communities and build a safer future for everyone,” he continued.

The new measures include, per the news release:

  • Implementing a national freeze on handguns to prevent individuals from bringing newly acquired handguns into Canada and from buying, selling, and transferring handguns within the country.
  • Taking away the firearms licenses of those involved in acts of domestic violence or criminal harassment, such as stalking.
  • Fighting gun smuggling and trafficking by increasing criminal penalties, providing more tools for law enforcement to investigate firearms crimes, and strengthening border security measures.
  • Addressing intimate partner violence, gender-based violence, and self-harm involving firearms by creating a new “red flag” law that would enable courts to require that individuals considered a danger to themselves or others surrender their firearms to law enforcement, while protecting the safety of the individual applying to the red flag process, including by protecting their identity. In addition, the government will invest $6.6 million to help raise awareness of the new law and provide supports to vulnerable and marginalized groups to navigate the provisions.

Trudeau also said his administration would ban the sale and transfer of “large capacity magazines” and require all long gun magazines to be “permanently altered so they can never hold more than five rounds.”

The confiscation of certain black rifles and other long guns will start toward the end of this year, assuming the “buyback” program becomes law.

“The first AR-15s and other assault style firearms will start to be bought back by the end of this year,” said Canadian Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino on Monday. “It’s going to be hard, but we’re going to get it done.”

Trudeau banned over 1,500 firearms back in 2020, as part of the prime minister’s original crackdown on gun ownership.  However, the details of the “buyback” program that was also introduced at the time were never finalized.

It’s estimated that 150,000-200,000 firearms will be affected by the mandatory “buyback.”

It appears that Trudeau is stopping just short of confiscating handguns, at least for now.  While talking about the “freeze,” he said, “What this means is that it will no longer be possible to buy, sell, transfer or import handguns anywhere in Canada.”

“We recognize that the vast majority of gun owners use them safely and in accordance with the law, but other than using firearms for sport shooting and hunting, there is no reason anyone in Canada should need guns in their everyday lives,” he added.

Canada does not recognize an individual’s right to keep and bear arms.

Agree 100% When God was removed from schools is when the forces of darkness took control of being the only replacement. Darkness does not exist where light exists and Much evil takes place under the cloak of darkness. Its necessary for success of evil to keep it that way! Thus the changing , or censoring of Truth to believe the Propagated lies of evil.

Always remember, all those that supported England in our Revolution, moved to Canada. They have a history of backstabbing the country that they moved to to be ‘free’.

While Canada & the US are trying to get rid of the benefits of the 2nd Amendment, Mexico is in desperate need of it.

Das Fuhrer, Trudeau, has modeled his fascist reign after Obama and Puppet Joe & his handlers.

No, with 99% of the country, wilderness and 95% never seen by a human being, there is certainly no reason for a Canadian to have a gun. This neo Marxist along with all his metro socialist anti gun supporter deluded pyscho flakes lack any grasp on reality!

One of the most poignant and emotional memories I have is from 6th grade — almost 50 years ago. The father of a classmate addressed the entire 6th grade in an assembly, following a brief reel-to-reel movie. We were studying the Holocaust. (Still taught, sort of, in public schools.) It was black and white, created by Germans, and basically, it showed prisoners being lined up, shot down, and pushed into a trench. There was more in that clip, but that’s what I CLEARLY remember. Two emaciated guys were shoveling dirt over the bodies while a couple of German soldiers wearing many badges and big black coats, smoked and laughed in the background. Some of the people in the trench were still alive; I distinctly remember seeing arms and hands and heads moving as the dirt was shoveled over them. Some of my 6th grade classmates threw up; at least one wet their pants. Well, maybe that’s why they don’t show it any more — if it even exists anymore. But I remember it, vividly, and the speech given by the father of my classmate. It was the first time I’d ever seen a full-grown man cry, and he wept openly on stage in front of us. “Little children,” he cried, “don’t EVER turn your back on evil! We kept waiting for someone to help us; we kept telling ourselves that we were safe. First they came for the gypsies, then they came for our neighbors, and finally they came for us!” He showed us his tattooed arm. He told us that everyone in his family, except for his brother and himself, starved to death in the POW camp. He told us that a GI carried him and his brother, one on each arm, outside the POW camp to get medical treatment. He was 17 y/o at that time; he was in the camp almost two years. He told us that many GIs were gagging and vomiting because of what they saw and smelled that day. I’ve never forgotten that. I wasn’t even born until more than twenty years after WWII, but I talked to veterans, lived amongst them, and of course, there was some learning still going on when I was in school. I guess Canadian politicians went to a different school? Couldn’t be bothered with the realities and historical examples of an unrestrained government? I dunno. It seems like so many Americans want to be Canadians, too… Sometimes this purposeful stupidity makes me sad; sometimes I am furious. What is going on around here??

Canada had their chance to 1776 with us and decided not to throw away the crown. They voted this tyrant into office knowing he was a racist tyrant. They made this bed, let them lay in it.

“At first they came for the truckers and I did nothing because I drove a Tesla…”

      Exactly

    • Stan d. Upnow June 3, 2022, 10:48 am

So, “they” voted Leftist puppet, Joe Biden, into office. “They” made this bed, does that mean the rest of us have to lie in it?
